Rickenbacker finish issue (Resolved by RIC)

They call that the dreaded "double hump" pickguard, discontinued within the last year or two, good riddance, never looked right.
That's an appropriate name for it. And I agree, good riddance. It always looked deformed to my eyes.

I realize this is an aside, but seeing the poster's photos of his JetGlo, I noticed the pickguard...It looks as if Ric has finally stopped adding that weird "baby bump" by the switch/knob area of the pickguard. Anybody how how recently Ric made the switch?

For comparison:

Revised pickguard shape, back to how they were originally shaped:

I wouldn't have even noticed it and had to look really hard to see what you were talking about. What caught my eye was the 'guard being much closer to the edge of the bass on the red one and I just assumed the difference was Ric QC

Really? Wow, it sticks out horribly to me. But then, I was always used to the classic pickguard shape. As far as Ric quality control, hey...that's not too far fetched!

UPDATE:

Just heard from RIC. They stripped the electronics off of my bass and are refinishing it. I'm actually pretty happy with that, someone mentioned that a brand new bass might play differently, and I have already bonded with the one I had. He said it will be shipped out to me by the end of the week. I'll be sure and post pictures of it when it gets back.

Would you be able to request extra curing time before they clap the bridge back on?
They won't be doing it gently.

I suppose it could be worth a shot. I don't know if they'd be willing to do that though, as a refin is probably already a massive pain in the ass. And for all I know they could tell me they did, and then just not, I wouldn't be any the wiser.

+1 I think that's the right decision and congrats on getting your issue resolved.

I imagine roughness on the underside of the bridge caused the bubble in the first place. If it were me, when I got the bass back, I would pull the bridge and check it- might be worth it to address that with super fine sandpaper, taking care not to scuff the exposed layer of chrome, only hitting the burrs or roughness.

You'd think they would check that in the factory during the warranty repairs, I'm sure they know all about this problem as it's so common. In Wolf's shoes, I'd ask them to check it before returning the bass so it doesn't just bite right through again. $116 shipping Ouch! That sucks.

So awesome. Happy days for sure!
