Rickenbacker Shoes

Is this actually the real John Hall?
If so, i'd love to hear your take on these shoes..... i'm assuming they aren't producing them legally.
Actually, I rather like the look of these but imagine the quality is dismal. They're marketed through a mail drop in Texas by a Vietnamese company and produced in China, none of which suggests value for money. Ironically, if a quality maker asked to do something like this, we'd probably be happy to issue a license. That being said, an iconic sports clothing maker asked to do shirts to sell in their stores. I said we'd do it in return for a set of team shirts for my polo club- only about 80 shirts- and they said no, were pissy about it, and only wanted to pay a per unit fee. I said no.

Mr. Hall, I hope you are enjoying your retirement, but with all due respect, this is just funny to me:

"You guys talk like I’m not here. Never mind I’ve been retired for some time and haven’t even been to the US coming up on two years."

Maybe, it's just me . . . . . well anyway, all the best wherever you are, and good on you for Ric's continuing success.
My wife is British and her very elderly mother still lives here in the UK, unable to travel. We're just trying to enjoy the last years of her life together. Besides, way out in the country here there isn't any Covid to speak of and our horses are much better company than people during a pandemic!

"Borrowing" a pair of these would be cheaper...

Well, sir, my very best to you and your wife, and best wishes for your mother-in-law. It must be wonderful to be anywhere there isn't much COVID, and the English countryside is beautiful. Have some bangers and mash and a pint for me. I have known a few horses . . . .

All the Best,

JW

Their loss. If they are an iconic sports brand these days they are probably manufactured in China anyway.

I'm not a Rickenbacker fan by any means... I have tried a few (because they do look damn cool) but they didn't do it for me. In saying that, I do respect the fact that you've resisted the urge to create a cheaper off-shore produced line of Ric's simply to make more money... but if you've got your own polo team I'm assuming you've had no problem paying the power bill over the years.

Enjoy the peace of the countryside. Most animals are better company than most people.

Indeed, it was a Japanese company, though most of their manufacturing does seem to be in China. It's really no secret- the company is Uniqlo with US$61.2 billion sales and 2,249 stores worldwide. They wanted to produce at least 100,000 shirts to start! It seemed that 80 custom polo shirts was a pittance! I really do like the sports fabrics they have, really comfortable in hot, humid, or plain wet weather.

Anyway, I subsequently turned to Germany to produce my shirt design- thought you'd like to see the results.

The "RIC Rock-its", my team, features mainly blue while my wife's "RIC Chicks" has a red motif.
We've played against each other in tournaments before and it's pretty colorful!

Polo has a problem, in that it's perceived as an elitist, expensive sport. Well, there certainly are many places where that's true but it doesn't have to be so; our club proves it and caters to children, students, military- people of all walks of life. We make 9 hole golf look posh by comparison.

I'm guessing they don't actually realise the allure of anything Rickenbacker..... they'd probably sell-out the first run in days to TalkBass members alone.
