Does anyone happen to have a spare set of 5-string Roscoe Barts they'd like to sell? Or less likely, a pair of Aggie DCBs they didn't like and want to flip?
I just switched from a cedar SKB with the Roscoe/Bart setup, to a mahogany SKB with CBs and an Aggie, but finding the pickups a bit lacking, especially the bridge pup.

Me, too. It's a good thing it's Christmas time. Keeps a music teacher busy so I don't think about it quite as much. I'll be able to hold off nagging Gard for an update until after new years.

Speaking of extra-cost options...
Sparked by the numerous lined/unlined fretless threads, and the high probability of playing out sooner rather than later, my interest in Luminlay position marker dots has been rekindled. To clarify, I am talking about the neck side dots, not inlays to the fingerboard surface itself.
I'm pretty sure I could handle this myself and it would be fine, but if I screwed up anything I'd hate myself forever...
So the question is, broadly, 'what about that?' Have you evaluated the material, and if so, what is your opinion? What is the nominal diameter of the standard position dot (yeah, I shouldda just measured mine...) keeping in mind the Luminlay stuff seems to have a 3mm overall diameter. The stuff seems to come in 70mm sticks and with 7 dots to the 12th, that'd be 10mm deep minus cutting loss. (I just don't remember if there are side dots higher than 12 - IIRC yes - but if it's dark enough that I need light-up side dots I have no business trying to play up there...) A 70mm stick is about $20 delivered - although it's a Japanese site so I donno if their shipping charge covers international destinations...
I'm *guessing* side dot installation at the shop occurs before the neck is mated, and I have no intention of dismounting my neck. Or shipping the whole bass...
So (stacking the 'ifs'...) if this is something you'd consider as an option, is it the kind of 'while-you-wait' shop service that could be performed over the course of - say - a GetTogether? I'd come a day early if something like that were possible... I don't have a jig or fixture for drilling fixed-depth holes square in 2 dimensions - but I bet you do ;-)

I've peeped that stuff a few times, and am very intrigued by it....but I have zero direct first-hand knowledge to share, unfortunately. It is not really a good time to do in-depth research today (or tomorrow), recovering from a HD failure still, and trying to do bare-bones stuff for the shop while also getting back up to speed technologically.
That said, if the sizes are compatible, we definitely could do the job for you in a short time if you were here for a hang!
If it works, I could definitely see me putting them on my own basses as well, FWIW.
S'Okay - I wasn't asking you to do my legwork, just curious if you'd already had a chance to check it out. Don't need an answer immediately anyway. Data on the website is quite sparse (like - how long do the rods have to be 'for best results'?) and there do not seem to be any US distributors. But I haven't investigated thoroughly either. I'd guess maybe StewMac could be a source...

Had my first club gig in 7+ years last night and the Roscoe kicked a$$! I think I can safely say I'm done with other basses.
My SKB got me past the audition process with the BL-singer-babe and I'm on my way to the first official band rehearsal with the other players. I am ready for the Blues Police pushback I have heard about but not experienced in this part of the country. "There's no fretless in Blues." "There's no 6-strings in Blues." "There's no place for coffeetable boutique fretless 6-string basses with rounds in Blues..."
I'll go do what I do and deal with the rest. I expect it will be fine. The Roscoe has garnered nothing but admiration in my quite limited experience. My playing is hardly admiration-garnering but I keep working at it ;-). I've got it set up in "P-Bass approximation mode" (75/25 favor to the neck pickup, mids switch to low and dialed a bit off the detent, treble backed off some) and there is still a lot of room for EQ adjustment. If the mids are perceived as too prominent I can back down from the FlexSteels I otherwise like.
Edit: No issues, everybody was great; had a great time. In Philadelphia, anyway, there are 6-string fretless basses in Blues.

As the photo shows, Keith had this done on both my Roscoe "twins". I couldn't be happier, works like a charm and has saved me time and time again when faced with a pro light dude who doesn't know the music. We have lots of sudden starts and stops and I end up in the dark multiple times at many of our shows.
Hi Roscoe crew, I'm pulling the trigger on a custom Roscoe fretless build. I'd love some ideas around which electronics to go with. The specs are Mahogany body SKB w/ a Maple top and a Diamond wood fingerboard. I was bouncing back and forth between either Bartolini JJ's in the JB positions or Bart humbuckers in the standard locations. I'll probably go with an Aguilar two band but am certainly open to ideas.
I'm new to the Roscoe world -- It's been a long time since I've played one. After talking with Gard though the other day, I see a few Roscoes in my future!

For sure Bart JB pups and Bart pre. I have a Century Standard Plus 5 fretless with lined diamondwood board and black hardware with a mahogany body and quilt maple top being built as we speak. It is replacing one I foolishly sold a while back.
Mahogany and JB is "IT" for fretless.
