All this pickup talk, which Bart are these? And do I have any options to change to if I have this style?

I like them, but just curious about options if I had any..

It is impossible to be 100% certain from a photo of the front of the pickup, but most likely, since that is a Custom, those are the custom wound Bartolini Quad Coils. To be sure, you could pull one out and take a photo of the number on the back of the pickup, then I can identify it with 100% accuracy.

in other news! my new strings to try on Roscoe got in!!

1. Labella Supersteps!

2. Fodera (Stainless steel this time not nickel, and now I have tapered!) I've used Fodera before but nickels and not tapered..

Can't wait to see the difference.. I'll put up a video if anyone interested in sound difference or anything..

* I even bought one of those DynaFlex Pro Hand Exerciser Gyro Balls.. :thumbsup:

Anyway...I was wondering last night if maybe changing the soaps on my 5 to a more "jazz type" pickup would make me fall in love again so to speak.

Gard suggested something by Nordstrand maybe. Any suggestions?

Bartolini is making the Singularity pickups, single coils in soapbar housings. If you dig the Bart singles in your 6, I would assume they sound similar. Gard, have you guys been able to use these at all yet? I've got a little endorsement deal with them and have been thinking about checking them out if they make them in the right size for my SKB 5 I just picked up. Maybe the Nords would more mid/high forward and cut more for rock?

I had my SKB with the SuperBrights out on a gig for the first time last night. Also the first time out for a new band, playing a sort of soul-jazz mix (Crusaders, Eddie Harris, Cannonball Adderley, Freddie Hubbard, LA Express, etc ).

Tha bass sounded great, playing through a Markbass CMD-121P combo, and the strings felt great too! I really don't know why they call them SuperBrights - that name makes me think they'll sound piano-like as in Rotosounds, but the Dunlops are far more full and even than that. The bottom sounded really fat, with lots of good mids for definition. I found I could get the tonal variety I needed by just adjusting the pickup balance without having to do mess with the eq.

If these age well I'm gonna be a convert!

They age well. They retain their springiness and punch for around at least 3 months for me. I buy about 6 packs at a time and it keeps several basses strung for at least 6 months!

Ok guys. Put on some Superbright Nickels and headed to rehearsal. At the last gig our soundman complained my bass was "all lows and highs and no mids." The attributes of Highbeams. After Pleking the DR HB are still not settled in so going to try something else.

I'm trying to find the Fodera recordings.. on the same bass so you can hear the difference.. but I found one so far..

Here are the superbrights nickels.. sorry for the stupid messing around the bass but you still get the sound..

I think these are the Fodera strings.. but I'll be puttin on some Fodera's in a day or two so I can repost up the new for sure 100% fodera strings in a day or two.. but I think these are Fodera.

If those are for sure Fodera strings using same setup bass and amp then the Super Brights sound far superior. I think I will order a set to try on one of my warriors. How are they tension wise?

I'll be honest, I believe the Superbrights recording is definitely superbrights as I believe I say the strings I'm using in the sound sample,

but the "think fodera" sound samples are not guaranteed correct. However I will make a new recording in 1-2 days as soon as I put these bad boys on!!

** oh and the tension of the superbrights, well best I can tell you is they were normal or not too tight or loose as I remember.. So difficult to say. I also had them on a 35inch Roscoe if that even matters..

I probably want a more loose feel and not tight so I don't think I can answer to well for you.. I could show you a video of how easy it is to bend strings :smug:

The Super Brights are quite a bit lower tension than the DR Nickel Lo Riders I had on before. Maybe not quite as low as the TI Jazz Flats I have in my P bass and on my fretless J.
