Roscoe Club

Good luck in the next phase of life, Gard. And thanks for everything at Roscoe over the last few years. It took me a while to come around, but now I have three amazing basses for life. And it's been awesome to be a mere 5-hour drive from the shop and be able to come in and pick out tops, hang out, see the Roscoe operation in action, and most importantly, drink beer! We were friends before Roscoe and we will remain so!

Well.

My father used to use a phrase (I later learned it was from "The Walrus and the Carpenter", by Lewis Carroll) when I was a little boy and it was time for bed...
"The time has come, the walrus said..."

...and off to bed with little G.

Well, the time has come, walrus or no, to make a pretty big announcement:

Tomorrow, October 19, 2017, will be my last day at Roscoe Guitars. I have been there for 12.5 years now, and for various reasons that I will not belabor here, it is TIME for me to move along. I enjoyed the job, and was at one time completely convinced that I would be like an old soldier and just die at my post (desk), but that time has gone, and I must be moving on.

Where? Well, the physical "where" is simple: Fuquay-Varina, NC. The metaphysical/metaphorical "where" is less so - I honestly don't know. I'm doing the whole "I want to be THERE, and I will sort the details out once I am!" thing about this. I am fortunate, and grateful beyond words to have the opportunity to do so, and will not reveal to those that do not already know of the how part, as it is a private matter, but again, one I am so grateful for, that there are no words in any human language to describe it.

Why? Because. Because, many things. These are known to those that need to know, and are not the concern of those who do not need to know - and no offense is intended to those in the second part of that statement, it just isn't worth being concerned about if you don't already know.

The next few weeks will involve some working on my house to prepare for sale, getting some things lined up and straight to get ready for the "jump" - at both ends of said leap, and saying "goodbye" to the city in which I have lived, quite happily, for the past 12.5 years. I'll be around, here and on Facebook, to answer questions that I am able to, and will always be happy to try and help out whenever I can with anything related to Roscoe in particular and bass in general.

You guys, the "Roscoeheads", have made this gig the best I've ever had, and one I am doubtful I will ever improve upon - I want to thank you for the 12+ years of great basses, great fun, and great people.
Good luck, Gard.

I made that jump in 2011 (new career). Best decision I ever made.

I hope the same for you!

Zach

Man, it's too quite in here since Gard left Roscoe!! :( Did he close this thread, too?

I might have to give-away a couple of Roscoe 5'er basses just to spark things up again!!

He's definitely moving to a new chapter in life, in a big way. For those that said "where?!" when he mentioned Fuquay-Varina, that's the right answer. :D
It's actually (kind of) a suburb of Raleigh, and no one goes there for anything (except to go home).
The good news is that he'll remain a Roscoe owner, player, and friend of many Roscoe owners, so after a few months in the shadows, I'm confident he'll reappear on here to talk about one of the best US-made bass brands with us.

Someone that has really paid attention over the past.....oh man, seriously?

SEVENTEEN YEARS OF ME BEING ON TALKBASS?

Thanks y'all, really. This bunch has always felt like family, and I am NOT leaving family, even if I am leaving Roscoe.

Peace, y'all. :bassist:

Hey Gard

I hung with Keith in New York while he meticulously measured the neck on PRS #11, so he could duplicate it exactly for me. He walked me off the ledge a couple of times in those days - I had to replace the PRS because it had become too valuable to ever leave the house. I ended up in North Carolina twice picking out the wood - for the original bass - and a twin for my stage rig, so I had a back-up. We worked our way through my custom oddball builds - medium scalers with RMC midi systems. As you might guess, he actually had a look of deep distress on his face when I said "Hold the Barts if you don't mind, no mags necessary."

Keith thought I was nuts then, and probably still thinks I am, but he was always kind about it. And boy do those basses smoke. He also went way above and beyond to finish the viola bass in my avatar, which I designed and had built for me, using a Variax electronics transplant. Such a special guy he is....

It was well before your time, but I would be lying if I didn't tell you how much I have enjoyed your banter and the expertise you have exhibited over the years on here. In my estimation, you were always the consummate pro, lending guidance and advice to all who ventured into your circle, which seemed to widen by the day. Advice that was always based on facts, not innuendo. I for one always appreciated that.

All the best Gard, I hope that your future endeavors bring you everything you are seeking in this life....

Which one?

You've got way too much redundancy there. You definitely need to trade one or two of them to get more diversity in top color ............... :D

Just kidding of course. They are all beautiful!!!
I really like the fretted one with the maple board.

... You should have brought them to our GTG a couple weeks ago. They would have enjoyed getting off the wall and getting to go on a road trip.:)
