Roscoe Club

I found out the Roscoe LG Buckeye Burl is a Custom with the wedge neck.

Yeah. I remember that you could order a Custom with just the wedge neck but the cost wasn't much less than just going with the signature model (so most players just ordered the signature).
Pretty bass for sure. I will add that having owned a couple signatures, I didn't find the neck to be any more stable than a standard maple/purpleheart/maple neck. Roscoe necks just typically don't move.
That said the wenge wedge neck is just awesome to look at!
Here's the rear on one that I owned.

Very nice, @JOME77 !!! Want to trade it? LOL Seems there were two very nice fretless basses that just needed to find new homes to, once again, live in the fast bass lanes!! :bassist:
..And Now -- it's voice!!!

I had a little time this morning so I finished tweaking the new Roscoe fretless and decided to give it the ultimate test, string it E-C to see how it would work out for my Bass Orchestra tunes. I decided to totally redo one of the songs that I recorded a few years ago with the "holy grail of Roscoe Fretless basses" (also know to a few as the Mwah monster). It was truly special.
At any rate the song has parts pretty much in all registers of the neck. I re-recorded all bass parts.
IMO it passed with flying colors. There's certainly some pitchy parts but that's me and not the bass (I could play it 1,000 times and still have that; it is what it is).:)
Just focus on the tone of the instrument. It just reconfirmed (at least to me) an ash Roscoe with diamondwood is THE way to go with a Roscoe fretelss (and the JB configuration ain't bad either).

Nice, @JOME77! What are your EQ settings on the 5JB for that song?

That was recorded with primarily the bridge p/u, bass flat, Mid (P/P DN) 3/4 boost, treble 3/4 cut.
I just recorded the solo's again. Hopefully I'm getting a better feel for the setup of this one. The action is so low that any variation of my hands causes a change in the sound.

Such a sweet sounding fretless! Keith hit a home run on this one!

Alright Keith!!! Last I looked he had a 3 and 2 count. LOL

I had to remind him that I hadn't received those Roscoe Bart pups. But I have them now and planning on installing them in my Spanish Cedar fretless.

I think that you’ll really like the sound of the Roscoe Bart’s. The extra compression really works well with a fretless.

Ray,
IMO the Roscoe Bart's sound better in a Fretless (than the CB's). The Roscoe Bart's are more compressed sounding while the CB's have a more open sound. The more compressed tone (of the Roscoe Bart's) combined with the mwah and growl that you get with a fretless just creates magic! :bassist:

Oh Boy!! These Roscoe Barts in the Spanish Cedar fretless is Da Bomb!!! I really like the way this bass sounds now. Just like magic! :bassist: It will be the bass of choice for tomorrow in service, for sure.

It arrived. Only disappointed with dead strings and noticed big drop off in B string volume. sounded overall like a passive Jazz with 30 year old dead strings. Going to have a set up and new strings put on before my impression is made. The look and feel are exceptional. 7.9 lbs!!!!!! It’s nearly 3 lbs lighter than my Modulus Quantum. I think it’s solud swamp ash as the rings line up at mid point. Crazy I’ve never seen anything like it
I returned the LG, body too small. I did just buy an SKB Signature 3005 wow, this one fits lol.

Concerning body styles, I’ve owned several of them all and like them all. I do prefer the STD models with the Century body style. The flat body just looks better with that model to me. That being said, for some reason I think the Custom carved top looks better on the LG and SKB models.
Probably a good thing that I prefer the Flat top on the Century model since I own 2.
