Roscoe Club

Who? Me? I'm no internet bully!!
The b/s was referring to bridge spacing.

But isn't this a pretty piece of Claro Walnut board? Stunning!

That is pretty Ray! Are you having another ABC bass made or is that going to form a part of your retaining wall?

I’m having water channels made from it! I think it’s a great accent!
If I have enough left over I’m going to send it out California way to a very creative wood artist. Hopefully, he’ll be able to come up with something.

Greetings Roscoe-experts, hoping for feedback on this:
Roscoe Bass | Brad's Gear Locker

"Serial #4661"

I'm happy to be proven wrong, but something seems off...

What concerns you about it?

That's definitely an LG-3005 custom (carved top) probably with Roscoe Barts. It's got the Maple/Purple Heart/Maple neck, I don't see a volute, but I don't see a scarf joint either.
It's got the Wilkinson bridge on it, which has mixed reviews (though I've never had problems with mine), and it has the Gotoh tuners, which aren't lightweight but will last through your grandkids' lifetimes.

It's got the 3 band EQ controls, so it's most likely the Bart 3 band NTMB+F.

All in all, it looks legit to me, and the serial number tracks for that time frame.

You can always email Keith and ask him about it.

+1. It looks like a great deal and it has the really good old-style case.

Appreciate the reply... My confusion/concern was that I've owned a few Roscoes from the mid-2000's through early 2010's and they've all had serial numbers in the upper 5000's-6000's range. Here's another listed on Reverb from the same year:

Roscoe SKB 3005 5 String Bass | Nashville Used and New Music

Also says 2007, serial# 5833.

What am I missing (serious question)? Thanks.

Edit: It does seem like a good deal regardless, and I like to give the benefit of the doubt as I want others to do for me. I just wonder if this was off for whatever reason, what else might be also. Good deal though it is, it's still a fair chunk of change.

It may be older than 2007. I've got a early/mid 90s LG that is in the 3000's and a brand new one this year that is 6800's.

But I wouldn't let that sway your opinion.

Honestly, Keith can probably tell you an approximate year that bass was built. They sometimes have funky serial numbers that are outliers. Big things that will clue you in are how the neck was constructed- pretty much all of them have the volute now, and the old ones have the scarf joint, the ones in the middle may have either one or may have neither.

It looks like a great price on that bass. If this were a year ago, I might be looking to buy it.

Thanks, that's helpful advice.

Are you sure that's not a Hipshot bridge on it? I'm not an expert, but it sure looks like one.

On closer inspection, (comparison!) you're right and my initial look was wrong. That looks like a Hipshot, not the Wilkinson. My bad!

I'd blame the bourbon, but it's probably just my eyesight. My neck comments still stand though!

Keith does sometimes serialize bass bodies/necks and let them sit for some time. So it's possible that the body and/or neck laid around for a few years before he actually did the build.

You’re taking a big risk showing that bass on the Roscoe thread. If I liked the LG body shape you wouldn’t have to worry about buying it as I’d already have it in my house. $1,500?!? That’s a steal.

I was looking at a used Lakland 55-02 as a “backup” bass for $1,150. Great bass but it ain’t no Roscoe.

Hell, I’d be tempted to “deal with” the LG body for this price.

My problem is the “hang” of the SKB and I assume the LG as I’ve never played one. The Century has the upper horn at the 12th fret. Makes the “reach” to the 1st fret seem closer than when I play an SKB (and I assume an LG as well as they both have a top horn at around the 14th fret) where it feels like I have to reach for the first fret.

Like I said, for a sweet bass like that at that price, maybe I should suck it up and reach.

. . . The "story" told to me a long time ago was: LG = Little Girl bass, and SKB = SKyscraper Bass. . .
What Johnny said. All true. Century is pretty self-explanatory I think. . .
As Joel has already posted: confirmed. Century, for the record, came because Keith designed it in late 1999 and released it. . . at the turn of the century.
Fritz is a Little Gal! :p
Oh, Joe. For sure I am a big fan, user, and strident advocate of the LG body style. In my experience it is a well balanced bass, with neck and body weight proportioned just right.

Even though the upper horn is a tad shorter than a Century, there is body shaping involved to compensate for it. For example. notice the asymmetric body design with bridge located near the body edge. Also, the strap pin is located off center. Then, keep in mind that it was designed for someone with shorter reach. Have some faith in the unique LG Keith Roscoe design!

I use a 4-inch-wide strap with all my basses, resulting in comfortable balance. Here's my very favorite LG with Dymondwood fingerboard. Look, Joe. It has flatwounds ! ! !

That’s a nice looking 2008 Roscoe LG! And a great price on Reverb.
The story behind the LG ? When Keith
first built his first one there wasn’t a name for the body, yet. He showed it to one of his customers whose first reply was ‘Looking Good!’. So, the response was shortened to LG.

Fritz, you know that I'm a huge fan of the LG body style. I go back and forth between the SKB and the LG. I've never been a fan of the Century body style. The upper horn just looks disproportionate to me.
I've never had an issue with the hang of any bass. I just strap it on and play.
That's the problem with folks these days, to sensitive!:D:roflmao::smug:

Those look like Chromes on your fretless! So cool!
