Roscoe Club

Yeah, it’s fun to watch some of these come together. I’d love to try a couple things but alas, it’s just not in the cards. I’m basically debt free. There are the kids. The house seems to be falling apart. New refrigerators, new lighting, and last night the dishwasher was leaking. New water softener, drinking water filtration, it goes on and on it seems right now.
I hear you, Steve! Over here in 2020, we've had to get a new car, new mattress/box spring, new washing machine, new dishwasher, new double-oven, and then we had a sewer line/toilet issue and had to re-tile an entire bathroom. And I owe the IRS some $$ which thankfully got put off until next month. So there are precisely zero new basses in the cards.

The double wall ovens are the last original appliance in the house. We’re hoping they last a while longer.

I took a cheap path to two (like) new basses when I added new custom knobs to a Roscoe LG and installed an old Roscoe Demeter BEQP-1 into my MTD KZX5, which required a different set of knobs that I already had sitting on a shelf. A new look for both basses and the MTD gets a new sound! :)

Ouch!!!:jawdrop:

Go for it Bernard!
Make us proud and totally push Gary and Keith over the edge!
Here's a quick 1st draft. I don't know anything about bass design. I just followed the curves of the existing LG body.

Yeah, I’ll stick to my standard shapes. Single cuts can look cool, but I think that the Roscoe bodies are so nice as they are. That and the headstock are the nicest I’ve seen. I do like the looI of the headless Roscoe’s.

I like it. I spoke to Keith today. He is moving forward with this idea. He's thinking the Century design is better since the upper bout extends where it should. We are in agreement in every decision.

I thought I was content too, Joe. Maybe just ONE more!

Anyway, this is NOT a definate build order yet. I put an idea in Keith's head, and he's going over ideas in the shop. So far, he seems very interested, and I'm getting more into it too! I'm starting to throw more ideas at him that he will consider. I'm suggesting a few things that are a little out-of-the-box for the Roscoe brand.

So far, these are the build specs:
- BEADG 5 string
- 34" scale (Keith's idea)
- Set neck
- Chambered body

So cool Gary! You’ll definitely have a one of a kind!
You’ll have to share the progress pics as they become available.
Sounds like Keith still has a sense of adventure in him. That’s a good thing!

So ..... What's the status on your new fingerboard! Surely you've had communication since this post.
Keith emailed me over the last weekend and offered to build a new neck, as opposed to re-carving it and replacing the fretboard. So I took him up on that generous offer. I did decide to stay with the purpleheart center lamination instead of a wenge one though, as I think that is a more “Roscoe” look. Of course now I’m thinking of getting matching cavity covers made as well. It never ends :D

Are you getting to keep the first neck?

No, keith is going to keep it and credit me as a “trade-in”. Which is good, that birdseye maple ‘board really is purty, if he re-uses that neck (which outside of being thicker than usual), it’ll make a sharp bass. Which will probably look a lot like the bass I sent him. Which makes me question my sanity :D

Yeah, you’re crazy!:roflmao:

Just kidding. It’s got to be cheaper than buying a totally new bass and it cures GAS!

oooohhhh, which means you'll get a new serial number- and a story about how your bass has had TWO serial numbers!

FWIW- I'm really considering asking Keith if he can replicate my current fretless neck (scarf joint and all) for a fretted LG. I know it's not how they do business now, but I really think it's the best neck I've played.

I don’t blame you at all. I just don’t care for maple fretboards tonally or visually no matter how nice they are.

Smilies in effect!

Though I will say that one maple board is enough. My next bass will definitely have a darker tone to it. Love the diamondwood for the fretless, and I'm a big fan of the BEM on my PJ- but I think it's time to go... darker.
