I wasn't big on the the first iteration of my SKB. It sounded fine, maybe a close comparison to Bart CBs. But, there was some mud in the top end. I thought the pickups just needed to be opened up more so, I went with a Pope preamp which I figured was as transparent as I could get. I was wrong. I had to EQ the bejesus out of it to get a usable tone. The mids were almost uncontrollable.

I played one of Greg's basses with DCBs at the last GTG and fell in love. So, I ripped out the guts out of mine and put a brand new set it. Wow, they changed everything. I've found the best tone is flat, maybe a smidge of bass. The top end doesn't have the mud that it had before.

Compared to the Barts it's like Roscoe with even more Roscoe. The Aggies have all the good stuff the Barts have just more of it. And, I might even say they are a cleaner sounding if that makes any sense.

I'll post up a country tune I worked on in a little bit. I pretty much live on the B string the whole time but, you'll get the idea.

Thanks that's useful info. The sound change you described is what I'd like to get. Looks like those Aggie DCB's are worth a try.

I've been a fan for years.
I dialed the blend off center toward front pickup and bass & treble back and found a new bass experience. Wow!
Who knew?
If you were attracted by the P-bass that sounds like a Steinway ad presentation, then here it is.
I discovered a new Bass.
I've changed hand position and am dancing in bliss. More punch, more more.

I know. The best part. Actually, the local guy will sell me a new old stock (2012 I think) Fender American Standard for a god price. It's a nice bass.



I'm sitting with my Roscoe right now and going to try this. I'd be useful to find a setting that gets me in the P tone neighborhood.



Of course, it's fun to play a 4 string once in a while, too. ;) And there's a certain look and feel . Watching Fitz and the Tantrums on Paladia. Great P tone.

Thanks guys! My precious Roscoe went to band camp this past weekend. Specifically - Ladies Rock Camp - ATL. This photo was from the band photo shoot.

She went onstage Sunday night, too, and got compliments galore.

LRC-ATL is a fundraising event to support Girls Rock Camp - ATL, a really great organization designed to get and keep girls involved with music.

I tried this last night. I did about half (between detent and full) way favoring neck and rolled the treble/bass stack off by about half (between detent and off) and it sounded pretty nice. Certainly "P" enough for now. I'll try it at church in a couple weeks and see.

Keeps money in my pocket. Maybe this will scratch my "P" itch.

i played p-basses for years, can't imagine going back to that. (i do have a cowpoke stashed away but i don't ever play it)

front bias, mids up and the treble rolled off... call it good.

I mentioned this another thread where you were talking about buying a P bass, don't waste the money when you can get a nice P bass sound out of the Roscoe. In my Century Standard Plus 4, I have the Spanish Cedar body, double thick maple top, aguilar 3 band and Roscoe Bart pickups and I can dial in a nice P tone. Plenty of times I will pan to only the neck pickup and make it honk baby.

Yeah, I got a nice tone last night. Plenty good for what I would need. I have a hard time imagining myself playing anything other a Roscoe. The neck is so amazing, and of course the tone and look.

Maybe I should re-re-rethink my strategy...

Yeah, I told my wife no P purchase, that I can find a useable P tone on my Roscoe.

She replied:

That's good. Way to be frugal. 😘

Unfortunately that just means I'll re-re-re-rethink buying my old 6 string.

Well, I have re-re-re-thought about things and here's where I'm at:

I can live without a fretless. I can for sure live without a Precision.

I found my first custom made for me Roscoe (see pic in post #548, page 28) for sale at a Guitar Center in Ohio. I almost pulled the trigger but didn't. It was off the web site. I figured it wasn't meant to be. Last week, it came back on the site. I figured this has to be fate, destiny, whatever. I called this afternoon and that bass will be on it's way to North Dakota (again) next week.

I know, I know, but now I will have my 2 made-for-me basses and will just deal with the money thing some other way. These are amazing basses and I am thrilled and honored that both were made for me by the amazing people at Roscoe.

Maybe someday down the road I'll order up a fretless. For now, I'll try to challenge myself with the 6 and see what will happen. One thing for sure, my wife will insist that I keep these and just be happy.

You'd think I'd be able to do that, right.
