Rude to not take drinks?

:thumbsup: thanks for your response --- i couldn't really make heads or tails out of the thread in general. the responses make more sense to me now.

You sure are making a lot of assumptions as to why I deleted this and other posts. The reason is not because anyone agreed, disagreed, discussed, was enlightened by, or didn't care about my post. The reason is because I determined the the original post was a stupid question and that the real reasons for my posts lately was because I am frustrated playing in a band and need to quit my band. It's got nothing to do with people smoking, drinks being forced on me, or any of the other complaints that I have. Those are all secondary issues so I deleted the posts. It's because I need to get out. It was MY ORIGINAL POST and I can decide what I do with it. Once you read this one I can delete it as well if I want. The delete function is there for a reason.

So true... don't be so hard on yourself. Hopefully, just getting some of your concerns off your chest helps with your dilemma... sometimes, I wonder how many deny there's even a problem, and continue on with the same outlook.

Formulate a plan to make your situation better... easy... and don't forget to keep playing, as you'll need it for your next endeavour.

I understand your frustration, I just hope I never get there. I put my bass down close to a decade building a family and career. A career change and divorce brought the bass and music back into my life, and I'm not letting go ever again.

My recommendation is to put your gear in storage, where you won't see it. Leave it there for a year. If you still feel the same way, then get rid of it. If not, then you saved yourself a bunch of money.

In clubs, We’re all working specifically to sell drinks . Consuming them is another matter. I also don’t drink so it seemed wasteful to me to dump a tray full of drinks. Then I realized we are being evaluated on how well the bottom line comes out for the club owner. A friend of mine had it right... he would “palm” the glass and fake drinking it. I was in a band with him where they sent up a slew of shots one particular night. I stopped taking them, he palmed them. I saw at least five full shots of ouzo behind his rig that night. Or so I remember...

As for your singer... he needs a come to Jesus moment. My bands fire people for drinking too much.

I just think the OP is frustrated, and in no way am I insensitive to his expressed frustration...

... but, after following said thread for what amounts to half my lifetime, this is the first thing I thought of...



... listen to it all the way through... I laugh, every time I hear it... follow the Jackie Gleason voice, in the first position, especially to the end...
