RUSH-Geddy Lee Rickenbacker 4080/12

Nice thread. Huge Rush fan here, seen them almost every tour since '84 except the last one :( . I'm working on a doubleneck now from a couple of Aria ZZ's (I know, not exactly a 4080), but figured it'd be fun to have. Back in the day I had a neat Carvin 4/6 doubleneck and foolishly sold it (back to Carvin actually for their museum). I use MIDI bass pedals now in our band and that's added a whole new dimension for our sound. Maybe the doubleneck will have a similar impact.

BTW, the Rush Lego characters are awesome!

I saw them on tour last summer. Geddy is really something!


I cant believe how he can play (finger style) like he does for 2 plus hours! I mean...... he does not seem to be really gentle while "plonking away"..



I was very impressed! I know I could not do it..

I have to give Ged a call and ask him just exactly how his bass tech handled the body cavity for the saddle assembly part of the bridge, when he modded the (Baddass?) bridge on his Rics. Double necks were done as well.

Anyone know that story? I want to finally rid my '74 4001 of the stock bridge and get something good on it - and an alternative to the Hipshot Ric bridge as well.

Yeah, they look good but they are very time consuming and not so easy to intonate without having to tighten up and loosen again the strings possibly a few too many times for my liking until one can get it right...unless you just have that 'touch' and a bit of luck guessing whow far to turn the screws again until you think the saddle is in the right place.:eyebrow::rollno:
I left the stock bridge on my CS and 1980 4001 but my other 4001 and 4080/12 have Badass I bridges.

Hi, first post to the forum.
I've seen the pics of GL with the cream 4080/6 a few places, but never found one with it in action, just his custom black 4/12, (on which I believe the production 4080/12 and 4080/6 were modelled?) so I reckon the shots of the cream 4080/6 were publicity shots, poss for Rickenbacker.
Secondly, I'd like to thank you all for pointing out that his Ricks all have badass bridges fitted. Shame on me I never noticed - in over 30 years! My '78 4001 was fitted with one over 25 years ago, so now it's more authentic as a Geddy clone than I'd ever thought! Dont think he ever had a mirror scratchplate though....

Welcome to TB!

I asked Tony Geranios (Rush's longtime roadie) about the 4080/6, and he said he's never seen Geddy play it live or in the studio since he has been with them (since '77).
