Rusty Box!

I spent some time last night with the Rusty Box at home and realized something: I don't like the way it sounds when I'm playing alone. When playing alone, it has characteristics I usually try to eliminate from my sound (trebley clank, hum, buzz). I didn't really notice these things during band practice. It sounded great in the band mix which is the important thing. This is the exact opposite of my experience with most other overdrive/fuzz/distortion pedals. Usually I play with them at home and dial in a killer sound that I really like, then go to practice and hate the way it sounds in the mix because I get buried.

Anyone else have experience with pedals you don't like playing alone but like with the band?

Same for me. Its everything i didn't think I liked in a bass sound but in the mix it just killed. Got some great compliments too. Still feels dirty playing with a dirty tone :D

Anyone has any news about the new Rusties? When will they be ready to ship?
There’s a notification / waiting list — info on how to subscribe’s available on their site (tronographic.com)
Shouldn’t be too much longer, but it’ll be worth the wait.
Tempted to get on the wait list for one myself, but honestly I’m 100% satisfied with the one I already have!

Speaking of the Rusty/Traynor TS tones, this is one of my favorite clips of that tone being used. The whole band sounds like a washing machine full of bolts.
You gotta search with the misspell. It's the absolute meanest I've heard from that amp.(that whole concert sounds even more aggressive than the album)

P.S. - The timing messup/guitar/bass sync at the beginning they did is different from the album version and pretty neat how they matched back up. Don't know if anyone else caught it.

Can’t believe how well the PDF-2 and Rusty Box stack. Truly wonderful sounds to be had

Wow I'm not liking it. That was unexpected. :atoz:
It does not fit at all my style and I find it too "hollow" and less punchy in comparison with the Ampeg amp...

I'll test for a week or two but I will probably sell it. :atoz:

Fuzz + Rusty Box: does it still sound good? I really need to use the fuzz on some sections (not much often but sometimes it's really necessary) and I'm trying to figure out if I can use a R.B. as a pre-amp with a mild gain, or it is a bad idea.
IMO it can sound good IF it's Rusty>Fuzz, and not so much the other way around.

Can't tell from this thread if it is this NEW Rusty you are disliking compared to the old, or if this is your first experience with the circuit.
I used to have one. I was underwhelmed first time I heard it, but then it became one of my favorite (nearly) indispensable sounds. I was however frustrated by the excessive output level and some other quirks; have since sold it as I have developed my own circuit which I am happy with, but I digress...
I suggest to give it some more time. Be aware the EQ is BEFORE the clipping stages, so the typical post EQ such as boosting bass does not have the same effect and can make it sound farty. If you end up frustrated as I was, give the Darkglass Omicron a try; I thought it achieved a similar sound but with fewer quirks.
