S.U.B. Club

The idea was to go ugly (I thought that would be glaringly obvious), since the stock pickguard was ugly. I just thought if it was going to be ugly, it was atleast going to be unique.

I like the way that pick guard looks on that bass. I think it looks sharp, I have a teal S.U.B and I would of gone that route as well if you had not thought of it first. It kind of reminds me of that button bass the Eric Wilson plays.

My SUB 4 had a problem with the g string, it was fading out too quickly starting with the 5th fret. Went to my luthier, i was getting ready to buy a graphite neck if this issue wouldn't be solved, but a good setup and a fret dress did the trick, now my bass sounds even all around the neck.

Fwiw the fretwork on my fretted sub 5 is the best of all my basses, even better than my Carvin, although I get a lower action on the Carvin due to the neck through inherent consistent flatness of the fingerboard and also because I love me a stingray with action just a but higher than ultra low so I get the most control of my tone.

ok here they are the three amigos + 1 my new Am Std Jazz..
i have a MIM jazz deluxe that im trying to sell, but I also have a AM spec Honey P (not selling ever) and a tribute L2500 (love it even though it came with a non working preamp but the passive sounds great) that i bought used from a fellow TB'er. I really need to sell one more..But I love all my SUBs, if you had to sell one more bass what would you sell....

Maybe so, but the frets themselves are low quality, my luthier told me that the metal is very soft. I guess that was another way to cut production costs

Your luthier is full of crap - they are the same exact frets as on the Stingray and Sterlings.... My SUB5 is one of my main players, and *if* the fretwire was "soft", it would certainly be showing wear - since I play it ALOT, and with rounds...

Side by side, the fretwork and frets themselves are indestinguishable from those of my EBMM Sterling 5 HS, and the EBMM Stingray 5 HH before that...

Ha ha. Really?
:D
I don't think he knows what he is talking about.
Plenty of these basses around, 7-10 years old. Have a look and see how many report frets wearing out prematurely ;)

My 2003, 2004 and 2006 were all fine, and all used regularly.

Yeah and I wouldn't think fret wire is any real cost savings the way wood and hardware are.

Nice!

I'd sell anything redundant. Prolly means offing a SUB, though.
