Same layout but the bass and are cut only. With everything dimed, it basically sounds like the active with the treble and bass halfway up, I think. I don't really remember. Not sure about the pickup. It's not as snarly and aggressive as the active, but close.

I'm sure someone will have a better answer.


How's the B string on the sub 5? I know five string players are really picky about B strings.

It's similar to a Fender P5's B string I'd say. I've owned both plus a G&L L-2500 and several boutique 5's (Acacia, R Bass, etc) and this is the 5 string that has stayed. I'd put it up against any of those as far as the B string and prefer the SUB5 for that pre-EB Music Man tone that other basses just can't get. :cool:

You need to make sure you have the right strings for the B to shine. I use GHS Super Steels with a .126 B, nothing else comes close as far as great tone that lasts (and I've tried them all)

Sounds great, as expected. It's active. Someone played the hell out of this thing.

Maybe 10ish pounds. I'm not having as much trouble with he five strings as I've had in the past. Damn fine bass.

I love my SUB 5s. I have had so many but now down to "only 3. I had a 5 string passive that I foolishly sold a couple of years ago. It sounded fantastic. The passive SUBs in general sound great. They have a little more "cut" to the tony. Very articulate without loosing that stringray girth and punch.

Anyway you done good Gorn Captain. That is a great finish. Send her my way when you are done with her!

Had my SUB for almost a month now, what a great bass! I had a huge Ray GAS and it did it for me! Sound just like those classic rays IMO, absolutely no compromise as far as tone goes.
I've swapped the guard for the white pearl one, but I also ordered a black one (BWB) and it's on its way. I like how it looks now, but I think I'll dig it a lot more with the BWB one.
The action and playability on this thing is absolutely awesome, on par with any ray I've tried (even better since I prefer necks that have some finish on them). Frets are perfect, no sharp edges what so ever! No clank, no buzz! One of the best necks I've ever played.

Well,update on the white SUB,did some trading,and the white SUB,is gone. Had GAS,for the Stingray,in my avatar. All my SUB's are gone,had three at one time. Will probably regret later?

Counting SUBS and Rays I've had around a dozen including a couple pre-EB's. I've let all of them go for one reason or another except the latest 5 string SUB. It weighs 9.5 lb and is everything I want in a Music Man. One SUB I haven't tried is a passive one, I'd like to find a white one of those someday :)

Well,I just traded a white SUB,passive to a fellow TBer,on here. Great TBer,to buy,or trade. I don't think he would mind,if you contacted him. His TB name,on here is Bass-only.

I love my SUB, it just slays, like any proper 2 band ray. I changed the guard for a black one (bwb), and I think it looks so damn good, absolute killer. This color combo really grew on me, prefer it to a LOT of the regular Ray finishes. Not to mention, it's just pure rock and roll. I'd be hard pressed to give this one up.
