SBMM Stingray Short scale

So.

I finally got new strings for my Musicman Short scale Stingray. I've been waiting for that to compare the MM with SBMM Stingrays. I had both basses full on with boost and all, going direct.

You tell me which is which. There are 2 25 second riffs...

They both sound fantastic but I am guessing the American one is #2
My hearing is a little shot, and the output is slightly different on each due to pickup height that I noticed I didn't have matched up... but they both sound almost identical to me.

I'm going to hold out till a couple more people take guesses before saying which is which. Not going to make this a week (or even days) long thing though :). I hate when people do that.

Hello all....Been on TB for years but rarely post.

I finally decided to try a short scale so I picked one of the white ones up last month. I'm not a maple fretboard fan so the blue was out of the question for me. Love playing this bass, feels very comfortable. Set up was very playable right out of the box and I did get a gig bag. Not crazy about the feel of the tuners(mine has a lot of play before actually turning) or the Ernie Ball strings so I will definitely be changing those out. All in all what a great quality bass!

One thing I've noticed.... my E, D and G string all sound loud while my A string is significantly lower in volume. Anybody else have a similar issue?

Just take out the pickups and raise both A and D magnet pole piece few mm.

Both sound great. My pick was #1 = SBMM and #2 = MM

The first is the Musicman.

The second is the Sterling by Musicman.

A few added notes.

When I first plugged them in the SBMM had considerably more output. I panicked for a second thinking maybe my MM was defective, but then realized I never adjusted the pickup on the SBMM. I keep the E string side a lot lower to bring out the D and G. Anyhow, I did a quick adjustment but the height still isn't matched up. I actually had to drop the audio by 1 DB on the SBMM after the recording to match them up.

Never realized that pickup height really does make significant difference in volume. Duh!

The other thing I didn't mention is that the Musicman has a maple fretboard and the SBMM rosewood.

So a recap:

1. Musicman Stingray maple
2. SBMM Stingray rosewood

wow! i really am glad i bought this thing!

Anyone come across any demo videos played with a pick? There's lots of really good finger style videos (some from very talented members here!), but not seen any plectrums. Just wondering if these still get that Ray 'sizzle' in the mix, being passive.

I've got 3 recent originals with a pick posted on my soundcloud... I'm unfortunately not one of those talented members you referenced, haha- but at least it might give you an idea of basic sound.
