SBMM Stingray Short scale

Anyone come across any demo videos played with a pick? There's lots of really good finger style videos (some from very talented members here!), but not seen any plectrums. Just wondering if these still get that Ray 'sizzle' in the mix, being passive.
They get that sizzle. Don’t forget, this is a brand new pickup design. The magnets are neodymium, which is way hotter than the typical AlNiCo we’re used to. And you’ve got the boost mode by pushing down on the volume knob. It’s a big boost. The thing that ties it together is the 3 position pickup style knob. Single coil, humbucker, single coils in series. Somehow it still has the Stingray sound even with the electronics being totally different from a SR. Someone back at the home office sure did their homework designing this thing. It does the Stingray thing and much, much more.

The first is the Musicman.

I keep the E string side a lot lower to bring out the D and G. Anyhow, I did a quick adjustment but the height still isn't matched up. I actually had to drop the audio by 1 DB on the SBMM after the recording to match them up.

Never realized that pickup height really does make significant difference in volume. Duh!
I did my usual full set-up including lowering the action just short of string buzz. Definitely need to drop the pickup now! Did you need to adjust the height of individual pole pieces? It would be interesting to know what clearances you now have.

I didn't adjust the individual poles. Didn't even know you could do that until this thread, and still not clear on how it's even done.

I'd tell you the clearance I have, but I don't have anything around to measure that... and I assure you there's no science attached to my process :) . I just keep the G side as high as it could safely go, and drop the E side to where its still comfortable as a thumb rest.

Just pulled the trigger on a Daphne Blue model.. been a while since I've had a short scale, and luckily the wife was very on board me ordering a birthday bass for next month.

I'm hoping I get on well with it, looked seriously as the Ray4/5 and the Ray34/35 ranges too, but couldn't get this model out of my head. Cant wait to get it hopefully by the end of the week!

What strings do you have on it?

I'm almost certainly sticking with rounds (the MM tone that's pushed me towards getting a 'Ray is the At The Drive In/Less Than Jake style grinding bite), but looking at the specs, I'm sure I'll need some heavier gauge strings. Considering the 50-107 GHS Boomers, especially as I tune down half a step.

i have deep talkin flats on it. heavier strings is a must. the slinkies it slips with are extremely floppy

BTW, I got mine on Monday, it came w/ the gig bag. New off of reverb.com, the retailer sounded like they had it on hand for a while and just posted it online. I happened to see it 20 minutes after it was posted and snapped it up. I put chickenhead knobs on it 'cuz I like 'em and I had 'em around. Nice bass, I dig it so far, look forward to trying it in a live mix to confirm the good sounds I'm hearing so far. With the three coil settings X 2 "boost" settings (sounds to me like there's a tone cap in that circuit as well) there is a great variety of usable tones in such a simple-looking instrument. Really impressive. And why is the MM truss wheel not just standard in every bass?

I was thinking about doing the same, what size and type of ultralight tuners fit on the SBMM SRSS? And how did you accommodate the 3+1 tuner arrangement, most replacement tuners seem to be sold in 2x2 or 4-in line configurations? Thanks for sharing your experience!

The USA-made Ultralites are reversible so they'll fit either side, the cheaper Licensed ones aren't (as far as Hipshot say anyway, I think people have managed to reverse them, but I don't know the process). So whether in-line or 2x2, you should only need to reverse one tuner. I haven't done it myself yet, but if I like the SS Ray I'll be getting USA Ultralites, they're the best tuners I've used.

I'd wait for Voyevoda to confirm before ordering, but I believe I saw elsewhere that 1/2" post Ultralites fit these basses.

I bought a set of four bass side and a single treble side. I didn’t know they were reversible until my guy told me after he put them on lol. So I have an extra one I was going to sell but idk where it went due to covid clutter. And yes it is 1/2”
