SBMM Stingray Short scale

I think they all do that. Mine does. Playing it right now. Sounds like a hive of Murder Hornets.

I’m playing mine right now through a little Vox modeling amp and there’s buzz from the cheesy amp, not from the bass. Even with the noise from the amp, it’s not even close to being objectionable never mind as bad as a nest of murder hornets.

I bought a “blemished” model from Zzounds for $459 and for the life of me can’t find anything wrong with it. As far as a hum is concerned, through my Genzler, my bass is very quiet.
Lucky you....
The bass was basically loose inside a box to big for it...

Considering it's a humbucker, it's noisy in my old built in 1957 house in the middle position - the selector, not the house. That's how mine is. Others may not have the problem. Maybe they live in a more modern shielded/grounded house?

I live in a house that was built in the 1840’s but did have all the wiring upgraded about 20 years ago. I’ve never had an issue with any of my guitars or basses. Now, my 52 year old Ampeg Reverbojet is a different story, it’s always had a nasty hum but I think that’s just the nature of an old tube amp.

I could understand that kind of treatment if the bass was coming from a GC where some kid was in charge of packing but MF is an online retailer and should know better. I’m sorry for the crappy service you got. It makes me wonder if GC/MF are just sinking to an even lower level of customer service due to cutbacks relating to their impending Chapter 11 filing.

So coming back to the noise, what is is the consensus around here?
Are the pickup noisy or not? specially on the middle position?
My bass is a bit more noisy on the middle position than it is in the other two. But not objectionable. Not like when I solo the bridge pickup on my Jazz or PJ. My amp is a PJB Double Four, my house was built in 1927, but most wiring was updated in the late 80s, early 90s. And my tube guitar amp hums like crazy only in the dining room.

Hope that's a complete enough answer for you.

I run mine in parallel mode also but mostly in the middle single coil position because it sounds so cool and completely different from my Ernie Ball 4H Musicman StingRay Special which does not have pickup switching capability. But in the 4H's one and only mode (parallel) it completely trounces the Sterling in its parallel mode. Just the way it is, but I still love my little Sterling shorty.
