SBMM Stingray Short scale

So I tried one if the short scales at my local store and completely fell in love. I didnt leave with it but couldn't stop thinking about it, then I saw a used one from last year for $200 less.

I took it home today and the neck is very different from the one I tried in the store and I am sure they are the same model.

The old one was way fatter and had a light finish. The newer one had a neck that felt much like the squier jaguar SS basses and had no finish. I like the newer one much more. Anyone else noticed the difference after one year?
This seems odd. I bought mine via GC via preorder before they came out. I have a white one that came with a rosewood fretboard neck. There was no finish, or a very subtle satin finish on the back of the neck. I've since swapped necks and the maple fretboard neck also has no finish or maybe a barely discernable satin finish. What color is the bass you bought?

A bit ago I asked regarding gig bags for the stingray short scale and was told that the Gator ProGo guitar bag fits. Indeed, it does.

this is obviously the EBMM version, but I'm told the outline is the same

Do you guys know what's the overal length of these basses? no web source shows this info...
I have only found the dimension of the Mustang, which is 42.5'' and (in theory) should be comparable with the StingRay

I'm not sure the exact dimensions as I'm in the office, but I own both and the Ray is definitely shorter overall

Small body, bridge right at the end, smaller headstock etc. It's probably only a couple of inches but the Mustang is definitely a little longer.

Do you guys think one can tell a bass' scale from its overall length?
I found some basses on eBay with no specified scale length, but in the packaging dimensions the biggest was 45''; therefore, considering the wrapping material thickness, I was wondering if that might be a short scale?

It’s really hard to tell from photos. Generally if a seller doesn’t list it as short scale you should assume it’s full scale. Unless it’s a known short scale model like the Mustang

Lucky dog!

I think I’ve mentioned it here, I know I have on the G&L Fallout threads. For the life of me, I cannot understand why the Fallout Tributes (also made in Indonesia) weight well into the mid 9 lb. range. I love the G&L MFD pickup and the Fallout was a serious contender but how an a short scale Tribute weigh more than an L2000 Tribute (active, two pickups, 34” scale) or a CLF L1000 (which is essentially what a Fallout mimics with a short scale)?
