Can anyone recommend a good set of strings for a Stiletto Extreme-4? I tried flats and don't really like the dullness of the sound. I'd like something with more articulation and punch. Standard EADG tuning, but if they can work well with the occasional down-tuning that would be a nice bonus.
I love stainless Round-wound strings. I can always roll the tone control off for a song if necessary.
Try DR Hi-Beams( I use MR-45's), They keep their fresh/bright tone so, so, so much longer than the others. I tried them 4 years ago on the advice of dUg Pinnick and I've been blown away by their tone, consistency and longevity. I just wish I'd have known 30 years sooner. Even DR's Coated Nickel Plated strings are bright and last even longer.

I would say yeah. Those are the gauges I use and work on eadg and I mostly have them tuned dgcf. Sound great with a proper setup.
All 17 of my Basses are tuned 1/2 step down and I drop tune the E string down for a few songs with no problem.
I've tried the 50's on a couple of Basses but really didn't find it necessary. Depends on the tuning you plan to use really.
Yeah Edbo right again. Why I use 50-110 is because i mostly tune dgcf.
What EdBo says. DR Hi-Beams or Fat Beams (I prefer Fat Beams because they seem to have slightly clearer low mids and are a bit more flexible, but that's just my personal preference and I am happy with either)

that is a '96 "s" series . Pat Wilkins did the LPB a few years ago . S series were originally oil finish , they came in blue , natural and I think red . If you ever see a S series forsale snag it !

I'll be the dissenting opinion here as I don't like most stainless strings. I tried one DR set, (I don't remember which), and thought they were ok. I've tried a few different strings with my Stiletto and the best string set was a .105 set of NYXLs. I despise normal Daddarios. The hunt still continues because in 55-110 it is hard to find string sets. I like Ni strings though.
I keep hearing great things about the NYXL's, I think I'm going to have to test them out. I've had no luck over the years with the generic D'Addario XL's but, I've got to stay open-minded. I'll find out if they are $10.00 more a set better.
To my ears they're totally different compared to DXL's. They also last significantly longer. They were the longest lasting set I've used. I still haven't settled as they don't make an NYXL 55-110 set. I'm not paying more for a 5er set either. They're also pricey. Guitar strings were always easy. Ernie Ball's just worked. For bass... Not so much. I might try a Kalium set next, if I can get them sized and balanced. I'm chasing a dragon here. They're probably all fine. I am going to try those DRs you like, or maybe a DDT set if they don't come in the super heavy size I need.I keep hearing great things about the NYXL's, I think I'm going to have to test them out.
