I'm looking at purchasing that 310212 - can anyone compare how it would sound in comparison to an SWR 610 Goliath SR?

I've never heard the 310212, but I have directly compared the Goliath Sr. with the Schroeder 410. The Schroeder won, hands down. I found the two cabinets to sound fairly similar on a basic level, but the Schroeder just had a bit more of everything. The thing that really got me was the Schroeder's bottom-end tightness with no loss of depth. If the 410 beats the Goliath Sr., you can draw your own conclusions about the 310212...Son of Bovril said:I'm looking at purchasing that 310212 - can anyone compare how it would sound in comparison to an SWR 610 Goliath SR?
Indeed it was. And a lot easier to carry around, too.Son of Bovril said:damn! So in your opinion, the 410 was louder and better sounding than the SWR 610!? thats quite surprising!
damn, that is loud! I hope that is indeed the case, cause I played a gig this weekend with an SWR 610 and SM-900 pushed pretty damn hard, and I could hardly hear myself during the chorus' of our songs - partly the room's fault, but I want an amp that will be loud enough to overcome that kind of situation in most cases... Well, I think the Schroeder 410 will be plenty for you, unless you're playing stadiums. The SM-900 bridged should push the Schroeder just fine. I'm using a 1,600 watt pre/power rig, and it sounds amazing at low volume. I turned it up fairly loud in my basement, and stuff was falling from the ceiling.Son of Bovril said:damn, that is loud! Just want to share a quick story about how fortunate us schroeder users are.
My band played a show friday at one of our local clubs. The place could hold...prolly 400-500 in the main room. This night there was probably about 150(with more upstairs, but there's an ugly story behind that.....)
I had my trusted 1210 and, not to my surpsise the other bands both brought in ampeg 8x10's.
Poor guys.
I've definately decided I'll never own the ampeg 8x10/svtcl combo. The guy who used it sounded good...but was nothing like what I would want to sound like.
Oh...and the best part.
2 of the three cabinets used that night were running into DI boxes
Guess which bassist ran straight rig.....
Hint: It was the same person who didn't require 2 people to lift his cab onstage.
My thought is that with the 310212, you're starting to get away from two of Schroeder's main benefits.. namely, lighter weight and portability. When I traded in my SWR Goliath Sr. for a Schroeder 410, I got better sound in a package that weighs 37 pounds less and is much easier to carry. The 310212 weighs 105 pounds, which is venturing back into 6x10 territory. The Schroeder 410 is louder than a 6x10, but weighs less than most other 4x10s.troll said:I still don't get what the big fear is with the 3101212?

It's just nice to have a little overhead, just like it's nice to have all that extra horsepower when you want to use it
And yeah, still don't feel silly when it's half the size of the 810's and sounds so much better.

haujobb said:Hey guys, I recently had a cab epiphany. I used to think that if you were in a heavy metal band, that you had to have a great big full stack to keep up. Well lately I've been using a Madison 2x10 and have been able to keep up, so I'm starting to wonder if I should just save up and buy the lightest, loudest cab I can afford.
My initial thoughts were to get a 4x10, but I'm starting to think I may be able to get buy with one of the smaller cabs, such as the 1212, or even a Mini12+ paired with another Mini12.
What would you guys suggest?
