I hate 15's except for Bag Ends....I don't know much about the Epi UL15's except for very positive comments and they ain't a cheap date, and there's obviously others. If you're thinking about adding a second cabinet to get more bottom end outta your Schroe rig, I know several of the guys here have added a mini 12 without horn or a 1210 or 1212. Considering the weight of most 115 cab's, other than the Epi which isn't a lightweight, I think that you might be just as well off adding another Schroe, to add some thickness....again....I'm sorry...I'm assuming that's why you're asking about using a 115 with a 1210 or 1212....if I'm off base here, let us know your motivation for possibly adding a 115 or another cabinet...and some of us will and won't comment!!!

I know with my 1210 it doesn't sound like a dub/reggae bass tone no matter how much low/bass I boost on my head or guitar. That lower ooomph I've found can only legitimately be used in a good sounding, non-boomy room, and it really only feels good on and close to the stage. It also, even in those rooms, cause havic with the bass drum mic, the low vocal mics, and the lower registers on a keyboard, especially if it's a "Hammond" type of sound with the lower drawbars out signficantly. Where my bass and head boost which are around 60 and 80hz, I'm not interferring so much, it comes through clean, and although it may not feel quite as thick the whole gig, I can really push a lotta air on ending build ups etc. with only the 1210.

Please let us know what you're thinking about or possibly trying to accomplish and maybe someone else here has been there done that and has a suggestion or two that may be of value to ya.

Good luck whatever the reason!!

If anyone is interested in hearing my Schroeder 410 in action with an Aguilar AG-500, here is a link to an mp3 of a freestyle jam called "An Hour at the Post Office pt. 2" that I recorded recently. One caveat, I added a touch of eq (slight boost around 250k) to my bass track so the tone is a bit exaggerated.

Here is another freestyle improv called "1721 Cobra".

Adding more bottom end is exactly what I wanna do. I figured the 15 would be a good answer to this, and I have looked into a 115 Avatar which is very affordable...I also wanted to get everyone's opinion on mixing Schroeders with other cabinet brands and sizes..I will add a second cab in the future, it will most likely be a 1210 but I will have to wait to do this since its expensive..the Avatar is cheaper but then again it may not be the best combination with a prestigeous brand like Schroeder. Perhaps I am better off waiting until I can afford a 1210 and then I will be happy!
Thanks for the thought provoking reply

the bass is real tight sounding. I love it! The music is a very avant-garde style that i've never really heard before. I can't put my finger on the style. It was quite interesting to listen to it. I enjoyed it! :bassist:

Hey! Thanks! We call ourselves the Flatulent Flailers and we call our jam sessions "Flails". Basically a flail is completely improvisational, someone calls out a key and we play. That's it! Very free. Usually we go back after we record and title the song and sometimes add vocals. We have literally HOURS and HOURS of Flails on CD. Sometimes they are good, sometimes not so good. Usually the title of the song is better than the song itself :D

FYI...for the heck of it I just plugged my two Schroeders together into my Focus (I was told that you can do that if you don't crank it up)...so that's 5 10's a 12 and 2 horns...it changes the whole sound. The 1210 is not as loud as the 410 but it has a little "thicker" bottom end, and the 410 has more punch and volume, but together, the whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts. I've found this literally every time I've added a second cabinet or similar or close. One EA 208 by itself is not a great stand alone except in very limited sized venues. 2 together are really killer. I would say that if you were to save up and get a 1210 and have the ability to run to 2 ohms on your head or 2 4 ohm loads with fairly equal volumed cabinets, it's gonna sound a lot more bottomy and with 12's won't be as suseptable to boominess and rooms with little to no echo. Are you going through your band's PA right now or not, by the way? How big are the places you're playing/going to be playing either a guess on square footage and/or number of people normally on your gigs?

I personally have no experience with Avatar...there are a lotta people on the forum that use 'em with success and some don't? Frankly, I would see what Don at LDS can do for you in a high efficiency 115 or a 112 custom built first, before I would go to Avatar. Don's cabinets are excellent, well built, very inexpensive / high value, great service...I've personally owned 2 of his and will be buying another one once I can afford it.

Again, have a good one...GAS can be fun....I personally don't like to shop.

At practice tonight I'll connect the Schro 410 and Steelsound 2X12 together again to the Ag DB750 and critique the tone rather than just see how loud it will get. (I know, childish for a 45 year old!) I'll report back tomorrow.

FWIW a 1212 with a 410UL sounds fantastic too Larry. They are quite different sounding cabs, both with great tones, but no question the sound of both together pushes my buttons. Goes waaay louder than I'll ever need but it's the tone that's the attraction for me not the volume. Interestingly it sounds much better with the 1212 on top than when it's on the bottom. The whole lot still only weighs about the same as my old svt410hlf and is in a different world in terms of tone, volume and flexibilty (price too I guess!).

that should be a similar tone to what the 310212 would have then?
With my 1212 & 410UL I find the tone quite different depending on which cab is on top. Having the 1212 closest to my ears sounds best to me, might be different with all schroe tho? If the cost isn't a show stopper, two cabs gives a lot of flexibility in comparison to one biggun (310212).

Has anyone with two Schroeder cabs ever stacked the cabs where they flipped one of the cabs, so that one has the angled baffle to the right and the other cab has it to the left.

I'd love to hear a pair of 410 like that (also a pair of 21012 for that matter).

I would think the sound coverage would be enhanced.

Hey John, I'll try that tonight. I've got a 1212 underneath a 1210. I'll flip the 1210 around to angle to the left (as you face it). Hmm... it may not work so well.. as I will be set up against a wall on that left side... well... I'll see what I can do.

Yeah, up against a wall would not be the best place to try that -- bet the low end would get bumped a bit.

Here's a question for all you iAMP 800 users:

IS anyone running a iAMP 800 with a 1210 and 1212, and if so, what are your thoughts? Any complaints?

I use an iamp 800 with a 1210. I have a number of different heads and cabs, but for the last year this is the combination I've used on most gigs.

The iamp800 is more than powerful enough to power the 1210 and the iamp's tonal neutrality complements the schro's slight low-mid bump. The EA doesn't really add alot tonally unless you use the EQ. What this means is that I end up using the natural musical coloring of the cab and only using the amp's tone controls when needed to compensate for a room with unfriendly acoustics.

Also, at very low volumes, too low for the 1210 to bloom, I might use the EQ a bit more to compensate for that. But by and large, I use little to no EQ on most gigs.

Another feature that both the head and cab share is their portability. The schro sounds great and lots of people buy them purely for their sound with no regard to their convenience (proof of this is in the number of folks who use them with a massive tube head - no weight savings there! :D ). However, the fact that this no-compromise, terrific sounding rig weighs about 75 lbs. including the rack case, is still something that has me smiling at load out time.

The iamp handles 2 ohms with ease, which means that although the Schroeders are designed as 4 ohms "single cab solutions", if I do want more volume I could simply add another 4 ohm cab. Most amps can't do 2 ohms so that's kinda nice too.

I'm happy using the 1210 with any of my amps and I'm happy to use the iamp800 with any of my cabs, so it's not surpising that most times I just use them with each other.

In short, no complaints.

These are just my general impressions. If you have more specific questions about either piece of gear I'd be happy to try to answer those as well.

I have heard great things about the 410! I am sure it sounds beautiful with a 1210..
I use PA support depending on the size of the venue..for instance - tonight we are playing at a place that holds about 200-250 people, its a medium sized venue and they have a killer PA system. I will go direct into the PA and use my cab as a stage monitor. I have not played a show there with my new setup so we will see how it goes..maybe I won't need PA support??

Usually the venues my band plays in are medium sized..capacity is anywhere from 100-200 people.

I have given it some thought and will probably add a 1210 later next year. That combined with my 1212 should move some air!

I'm using a 1210 and 1212 paired together most of the time. I have a Trace V6 that just sings through this combo.. but I also have an iAMP800. The iAMP sounds almost as good as the V6. Id say the iAMP has a slightly rounder low end, that could probably easily be eq'd out of it... but I just leave it. I find myself cutting just a bit of the mids on the V6, but not with the iAMP. I also usually use the bright switch on the iAMP, and rarely use it on the V6. However; I usually boost the treble on the bass I'm using with the V6, and I don't with the iAMP. (if that makes sense..... let me try again.. I prefer the bright switch on the iAMP, and I prefer the onboard bright switch on my Skjold or just boost the treble on the Sadowsky if I'm using the V6). (Oh.. my 1210 has the selenium tweeter, and the 1212 has the titanium tweeter). I usually will run the titanium off, and the selenium at 1/2 way.

The contour buttons on the iAMP are great, and make it extremely easy to use, and very versatile.

The iAMP 800 into that 1210/1212 stack will give you great low end. (and I mean GREAT!!) super punch in the mids- low mids) and will sing you to sleep in the high end. I thinks it's a great pairing.
