I've found that as long as the room is not a loud, boomy/echoey room in that medium or less 150-200ish capacity, that the single 1210 with minimal PA support tends to work out real well. Being a bit older and still somewhat old fashion, I like trying to play as loud as I can within the balance of the band and room and let the PA supplement me. I've had very very rare complaints since I bought the Schroeders (and before frankly) of playing too loud on stage, even with bands where I had no PA support at all. I feel that if you get a pleasing tone (try to not overboost the very low end on stage) play dynamically and make use of different volumns where you should, and don't constantly overplay or only peddle your lowest B string or highest g string notes, I know this is a lot of variables, and of course remember to play the right parts!!!, I feel you can get away with playing a little louder on stage. The low end if it's not playing havoc with bleeding through the mics on stage, is not anywhere near as loud as a guitar, keys, or snare or cymbals.
I wonder also whether anyone with a Schroeder has had issues with getting a certain head or pre/poweramp setup to sound good to them. It seems as though literally everyone has been able to get a great tone with just about any head/amp tube, hybrid, or straight SS. Is the "signature sound" of the Schroeder cabinets that strong that all these heads and different basses are essentially sounding "the same?" or at least extremely similar because of being wired to a Schroe? I can't believe that's the case but unless we start hearing of more instances of talkbassers saying that "yeah, it sounds great with my EAiamp800, but I couldn't get a decent thing outta my xxxxx, or yyyyy, or aaaaa amp, I'm gonna have to start believing it's all in the cabinet.
