Now I'm wondering.... can anyone compare 21012 with a 1212??
Congratulations!rob_d said:I just received my Schroeder 21012 today and will post my thoughts in more detail after this week. Obviously I couldn't push it much in my apartment but what I did hear sounded as advertised throughout this thread. The tone seemed very clear and even throughout the full range of my Modulus Q6. I am using an Iamp 600 for a head and this amp/cab combination really seems to bring out the natural sound of the Modulus like nothing I've played through before.
After my gigs this week I will have a better feel for it and will have put it through some paces in live use where it really counts. I'll also get to gig with it in two very different settings..one in an all original world beat fusion band with horns, vibes, percussion etc... and the other in a "modern" rock/alternative band with a pretty loud drummer(aren't they all?). I'm looking forward to checking it out and will post my thoughts after this weeks gigs.
This is why I thought a 1012 made more sense than a 1210. Oh well.Big String said:....the 21012....
The front loaded 10's were in your face punchie and the angled 12" added a huge bottom......

Why not design and build your own bass speaker system?PhatBasstard said:This is why I thought a 1012 made more sense than a 1210. Oh well.![]()
I was just stating that someone's observations, who actually had one of these cabs, was reinforcing my earlier assumption, that if you're going to put 10s and 12s together in this type of cab design, the 10 (being the punchier speaker) would be better served in the front firing position and the 12 (producing more lows than the 10) would be better in the angled/dispersion position (opposite of the current 1210 cab). The 21012 seems to follow this principle/theory, yet the 1210 does not.lo-freq said:Why not design and build your own bass speaker system?
Jorg is very meticulous about the tone of these cabinets.
He did them this way for a reason: TONE.
There's plenty of other cabs out there; if you find something (or can build something) you like better 'go for it'.
Sorry; I meant my tone to be 'offensive', not defensive.PhatBasstard said:... Speaking of "Tone"...why is yours so defensive?
I don't think PhatBasstard is saying that. I think (and you can correct me if I'm wrong, PhatB) he's questioning/challenging Jorg's choice of designing the cabinet as a 1210 instead of a 1012. I believe It's a valid question, and while I'm willing to trust Jorg's R&D and explanation as to why he chose that particular arrangement, I can understand PhatB's skepticism (particulary since he owns one of the Tech cabs). I wouldn't be surprised there are some who would like the tone from a side firing 12" as opposed to the 10". I doubt PhatB would want to plunk down the cash just to see what it would sound like, but I'm sure Jorg would be willing to make such a custom cab if a customer wanted it.lo-freq said:Sorry; I meant my tone to be 'offensive', not defensive....
...If you're wanting more low end (don't know if that could happen -- but might be some's cup o' tea), turn the angled baffle down.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion.fgenus said:I don't think PhatBasstard is saying that. Exactly. I think the idea of combining the characteristics of 10s and 12s together in one cab is a great idea, I was just questioning why the same theory of projection/dispersion isn't implemented the same in both cabs (1210 and 21012). The 21012 makes sense to me given the known characteristics of the drivers, the 1210 not so much.fgenus said:I don't think PhatBasstard is saying that. What you call "nitpicking" I call being thorough. Some people have trouble with (or even presenting) hard facts.lo-freq said:If you check all PBasstard's posts you may notice that he does alot of nit-picking (and that is his right to do so).

Scooperman said:Perhaps, since you'd be buying it "sound unheard", but then again, there's always the possibility that Jorg wasn't kidding himself when he thought that the 1210 sounded better. Perhaps, if you A/B'ed them, you would agree. Since there doesn't seem to be any other reason why he wouldn't make a 1012, perhaps it's just possible that the 1210 sounds better.
lo-freq said:I'm totally guessing, but suspect that swapping the positions of the 10" and 12" affected the tonal balance in a way Jorg didn't like.
fgenus said:Has anybody asked him if he'll make one as a custom job for a customer? I remember reading in one of the posts (way back in the single digit pages) that Jorg would build custom cabinets with rack space for customers who wanted them, so perhaps he'd build a 1012 for PhatB. Jorg (or Brian), care to weigh in on this one?
- Frank.
OK, but not to be....nitpickyJSCHRO7376 said:The speaker configuration of the 21012 differs compared to the 1210 out of the simple reason that the 12" angled woofer has a lot more room to move in that larger cabinet and is therefore able to produce a serious but tight and focused low end.
