Again;

I honestly avoid posting too often on TB because this has been already by some parties interpreted that I am trying to advertise my cabinets, but once more very short:
I explained the 1210/1012 twice before when you've brought this issue up. I don't intend to customize any Schroeder due to the fact that there are back orders to be fulfilled and I only offer a product or model when I 100% believe in it.
The Schroeders differ to the Techs a lot more than any X front fired cabinet to a Y or Z front fired cabinet.

I'll be more than glad to respond to emails in a more detailed fashion but I prefer not to interfere much here on TB when it comes to my cabinet line.

thanks again, everyone.

Sincerely,

Jorg
No offense intended, it's just that some of the "explainations" have been no more detailed than "it sounded better this way". Also, some of the reasoning given has been in conflict with other reasoning given (i.e. the reasoning for the 21012 vs. the 1210 configuration).

I don't think by talking/answering questions about your cabs you are being looked at as "advertising" them.
This is what this site is for, after all.

If you consider drilling/mounting a 10" hole for the front driver of what simply would have been a 12" hole (in a 1212) a "custom" order, somehow delaying your assembly line.....ok.:hmm:

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure, from a design I know is proven, to all the positive testimonials, I'm sure all your cabs sound great anyway and I will probably, more than likely, purchase one or two in the near future.

Well, that's a matter of opinion,
and you, being the manufacturer, are too close to, and have too much pride in your product, to be able to honestly make that statement accurately anyway...as it should be.

But, it apparently also doesn't seem that way to anyone that has posted here, that has owned one of the Tech cabs. There is nothing else (I'm aware of) on the market that comes close to the similarity of this design other than the Tech and Schroeder cabs. Comparisons are inevitable.

Like I said: "I'm sure the Schroeder cab is an improvement over my Tech cab"......as it should be.:)

I would like to apologize for some of my rather contentious posts here yesterday.
I prefer congeniality to contention.
I believe that TB is a mostly congenial community and I appreciate that very much.

Having said that, I suspect that certain people, by the very nature of some of their posts, might be encouraging other people to ingore those posts...

Not sure if I'm involved in either of the above statements, but no problems here.
Hashing out things like this is how progress is made. There will always be a fresh observance from a different angle (or at least a questioning of the Status Quo).

Maybe you should try a 1010.
Although a 1012 might have been my choice for additional lows out of a single cab, a 1010 (actually a pair so I could split them to different stages) would probably be my choice over a 1210 or 1212. I prefer the punchyness of 10s. My Tech "1212" is huge sounding for such a small cab, but not particularly punchy (compared to 10s).

One of the unique pluses of Jorg's design is that for different acoustic environments the orientation of the cab can be changed. The usual with the angled baffle to one side or the other gives a bit more directionality to the projection of the sound.
If you're in a boomy room and having a hard time hearing your bass, turn the angled baffle up.
If you're wanting more low end (don't know if that could happen -- but might be some's cup o' tea), turn the angled baffle down.
Not so unique.
I have been doing this with my Tech cab for years.:smug: ;)

Hey guys, I just got off the phone with Brian and ordered a 1210.

Having only one cab right now (Avatar B212) had me GAS'ing for a smaller cab that would sound killer and be loud enough for gigs and rehersals (that is, become my #1 cab). After much research this week...I decided to try a Schroeder, after considering all these fine choices: EA VL-210, Eden XST, Epifani 210, and various Bergantino cabs.

There are so many choices, it was hard deciding. I'm hoping the Schroeder works for me.

Congrats!

I seriously think you will really dig it.

No posts for a bit on this (although it has been running since June  ). I've just discovered this post, and really talkbass. Heard about it for a while but really was intimidated by its astronomical size. I've just ordered a 1210 as well, and I can echo all of the sentiments about Jorg as a person. I have a tendency to be very skeptical (like others here), but I just keep hearing so many good things, and Brian B. has been exceptionally helpful in talking to me about these beasties.

Ok, the point to my post... I've only been through about page 20, then I jumped to the end and began working my way back to about 43-44 so there are a good 20+ pages I've missed. If this is redundant I apologize up front, I intend to work through them all just haven't gotten the chance yet. I'm curious to hear what kind of basses everyone is using through these cabs. I've heard SR5 and a Benevente sans frets, but mostly just the pre/power amp configurations. The type of basses and the type of music is key in my determination of how the cab will fit in with "my sound."

I play worship on Sunday morning which can range from loud rock to gospel to softer acoustic songs. I also play in a jazz quintet doing wedding receptions and we do straightahead standards, some latin, and a few Herbie funk tunes. I've got an F BN5 ash/maple now that I'm selling to fund an Elrick of similar flavor, a Rob Allen MB-2 5 fretless, and have a Fodera Pres. 6 hybrid on the way with a thick walnut body, ash neck, and Brazilian board, fretted. I run a Demeter 201s and Crest LT1000 or Stewart World 2.1, and ntil recently I had a Kern IP-777 as well through an Epifani 212D. Or I should say I got it all to run, but have never really used it all except in my home because the gig I bought it for never materialized.

I LOVE my Epifani 212 (I'm all about enough low end to kill a small horse), but don't need the big cab for the gigs I'm doing. I thought the combination of a 12 and a 10 in a single cab would really kill and discussed this at length with Jorg. . . sorry, this post is a bear. Trying to make up for almost 6 months absent from the discussion.

Any comments?

I got a 1210 last week from Jorg, and while I haven't gigged it out yet, I have a few early impressions.

It's big & heavy compared to my Bergie 112s & Bagend 15s. I've definitely become spoiled by the lightweights.

My instinct has me place it with the angled 10 up, and in this position it is nice and loud when standing next to it. I've had issues with the Bergies, not hearing them well when standing above them or next to them when we are crowded in by dancers with no real stage.

On end, the cab is the perfect height for a playing seat, and with the 10 firing up it feels and sounds great when sitting on it and playing. I play some Latin gigs where we sit (the leader/guitarist has a bad back) and this might work out well.

More impressions after I gig it.

ALoha,

Jonathan

Got my 1210 today. I've had similar issues with my Berg HT112 with not being able to hear it when up close. First impressions with the 1210 is it's fat, full, and LOUD!!! Not sure if it has the punch of the HT112, but not enough time spent with it to say for sure. The 1210 seems much bigger than I expected also.

That's good to know; I prefer to play sitting (doesn't happen at church which is why the 6 probably won't make an appearance there), and do so when playing with the jazz group. I'm excited about getting this thing, particularly hearing the other comment above from NeedMoreBass. . . fat, full, and loud is never a bad thing!

And I rudely forgot to say this in my first post, but thanks to all who've contributed to this thread. It's been (and continues to be) a pleasure to read, and very informative.

Well, me too, my 1210 arrived today! :hyper:
This was a busy and long day, however, and I only had time to try it late, at low volume. Sounds nice so far, even at low volume. Will try it tomorrow with a bit more juice; gigs seem far away - so even though others say they are the most impressive in live situations, I won't get to hear that anytime soon...
What surprised me a bit about it's size was its depth, but, when compared to most 210s, 212s or others, its smaller in the other dimensions. Oh, and I need to work out a bit more, even though this cab is not really heavy at only 47-48 lbs, but it looks like I'm a bit weak for even that - I'm spoilt by not having gigs for a time now, no gig, but no lugging around and carrying stuff, also :p But I hope that will change next semester

More tomorrow ;)

I play mostly the fretless Benavente.. but I also play my fretted 5. Both are Ash body / Maple neck and active, an imported Hamer 5 string that's defretted and loaded with Barts run passive and an 80s Ibanez with passive dimarzio P/J. I've also taken to playing with groundwounds about exclusively these days.

I play in a DMB meets Live meets The Meters thing that is trying to get off the ground (drummer issues at this point still).

Cool, I mentioned my current *band* but I also am doing my own thing that is yet to be classified / formed... but I am mostly influenced by Tony Levin, George Porter Jr, Mike Mills, Pat Dahlheimer, Tony Franklin, Paul Denman, Chris Wood, Sebastian Steinberg, Lucky Scott, Mike Watt....

NICE! my fretted 5 isn't totally unlike an F... basically a hot rodded Jazz. I'm still wanting to try a Rob Allen someday.

as you've most likely read, I use a Yamaha PB1 and a Crown OR my Peavey 400watt tube head. I was going to buy a Berg NV215 to replace my BagEnd S12 & S15 but got blown away by the 1210 and the 1212 is unreal!

I hate that! I've joined a few things that were going great... I just came on board as they were about to disolve.

:D yeah, my rig is a danger to the weak, old and young! I think the 1210 is a great cab by itself... the 1212 is a bit more aggressive and deep to my ears. I'm liking the 1212 for *my* tone, but the 1210 works a little room better so far. They are pretty similar to me though.

naaaa... I'll let everyone else answer your questions :ninja:

congrats on the order... I love these things!!!!

Oh, the Allen. Rob makes an extraordinary instrument. Mine's the one that was at the Groove Shoppe, crazy walnut on alder with a walnut neck and macassar ebony board. It's awesome!

Well, as luck would have it, I managed to blow one of the 10's in my 21012. My own darn fault; just pushed it too hard without enough watts behind it. Noticed that "crumpling paper" sound from one of the drivers the day after the gig. So I'm probably one of the first to experience Jorg's "repair department" in action.

The verdict: It couldn't be better.

I sent him an Email asking how to proceed (and I honestly did expect to BUY a replacement woofer, as the problem was not his fault in any way), he responded within five minutes. He couldn't get a replacement on it's way to me fast enough, at no cost to me. I didn't even have to ask him to cross-ship (send out a replacement before he received the blown one back); he just did it, and did it quickly.

Between the quality of this cab and the quality of the customer service, I'm not sure what more one could ask for.

Thanks again, Jorg. ;)
