I just recieved a 1212 to go with my 1210, and used them as a pair at last night's gig powered by my Demeter/QSC.........awesome!! I've also have used my 1210 with my Thunderfunk, and that pair sounds great also. I have a smaller gig later this week where I'm just using the Thunderfunk and the 1212.....I'll let you know how that pair works out

I'll be ordering a 1210 in the next few days, will play it with AI focus...is the cab mid scooped, or the sound is full and big?
I dislike scooped cabs, so that's important to place my order.
I was thinkin'of an Epifani 3x10, but the portability and costruction of Jorge's cabs are intriguing me.

Wow, did you read any of this thread? Every couple of pages, people are talking about how these cabs are the opposite of mid scooped, with a response hump somewhere in the lower mids.

It's a killer thread! Take a week vacation and sit down to read it end-to-end!

One of the Alembic Club guys tried to measure this more scientifically. He compared the Schroeder 1210 to a Mesa 4x10 loaded with EVs. Not exactly reference standard, but that's what was available.

Using that setup with a parametric EQ, he found that there was a relative bump in response centered around 200 Hz with the 1210. Does that mean the Mesa is scooped or that the 1210 has extra low mid response? Hard to say. No idea how you would do a real scientific measurement of the cabinet's response. I wish they would do some, though....

One other note on these is that demand on the used market is high enough that you can probably get 90% of your money back if you don't like it, especially if there's someone within pickup distance that will buy it. I think it's a pretty safe purchase compared to most of the gear we bassists try out.

Ok, I'm from Italy, so maybe the chance of having someone to want it used are low...but that's not the problem!
I know this will be great, simply I feel This!
My concern about the scooped mids were more in avoiding an Swr sound, do you know what I mean!!!
A low mid bump is not a problem, if I want a cab to be small and big sounding somewhere it must detract from total linearity, but I don't want the deepest lows to be here at the expense of the midrange.
I like the way Epifani cabinets are full and growly in the midrange, without detracting from the clarity of the top end, and the fullness of the lows.
From what I've read, the Schroeder cabs aren't really different, only a bit more aggressive in the lowest mids, and the top end seem to be a little more present.
Or am I wrong?

Wow, this whole mega-thread about cab-loudness.

All this raving about loudness worries me.

I think what he means is that many newer technology boxes
sound great when you can push even the smallest ones with
a lot of power, at a good volume. Its not easy to find a box
that sounds musical and efficient at a lower volume, and still
sounds good loud too. This is what I THINK he and I are saying.

Exactly.
I do not doubt that these cabs do sound musical and efficient at both lower and higher volumes. But all this talk about how loud this cab is, are kind of uninteresting to me. All I need is a cab that sounds really good, and that brings out the best of my thunderfunk...!

Hi! I'm evaluating all kinds of alternatives for my metal rig. I need thunderous lows and lots of volume. I use a SansAmp RBI (with looped compression and param EQ) and a power amp. I need BIG undistorted lows 'cause of the B-string orientation the bass has to take in our music. Poor midds is not an issue for me, but I also like bright glassy highs too. I was definitely thinking of getting two 21012 cabs or the new (still unreleased I think) 310212. Any experience for this kind of very heavy sound? Thanks!

Ill let you know what its like when I get my 3101212. I use a Sansamp RBI and an Eden Navigator (parametric EQ and compressor) with a power amp.

Man, you're a tough guy to please  :D ... You mean to tell me that in 62 pages of posts the only impression you've got about these cabinets are that they're loud?

Define "really good"? If you do an advanced search just in the thread titles on "Schroeder", you'll find 60 threads, many comparing the cabinets to the likes of Bergantino, Acme, EA, Accugroove among others. Surely you should be able to get some idea of how they sound from these posts.

OK, I'd particularly like to know about the low end, you know, what you feel under your feet :). Thanks so much!

If you want earth shattering lows, you'd be best served by considering the following cabinets:

- Schroeder 21012
- Accugroove El Whappo
- Acme B2 (You'll need a lot of power to get some serious volume of of it though)

Or, if you really want to do some serious damage, just wait for Jorg's 3101212.

I have several customers who play very heavy music, that I have sold the 4x10 to . It has all the lowend and highs you would be looking for , and it would still be in a portable size. The 4x10 is 1400 watts !! and is slightly louder than the 21012. Most of the customers have sold their 8x10 or stacked 4x10 , 1x15 and can play louder now.
I have not heard or tested the 310212 , I am sure that could do a stadium gig !! I think it comes down to needing the extra volume and wanting to carry a bigger cabinet around.

Lol, I have found lots of info. I guess I just need to have confirmed that this cab is not only the rock/metal thing. (As I think Ampeg are.) You see I guess I'm a little bit paranoid when it comes to these things, seeing as I can not try anything out myself. That, combined with my constantly thin wallet, makes me a hard nut to crack, I guess:D

I'm really really interested in the 1210, though.

I have a 3101212 sitting right behind me. Due to serious abuse and insanely bad luck with shipping companies, and recent bandmate illnesses, it sits collecting dust. While my full rig with necessary power section sits in a locked room in a warehouse 30 minutes away that I don't have 24/7 access to.

So in other words, I have been waiting, rather impatiently... to test it out in a full situation with full power, for over 2 weeks now, and it's driving me nuts.

It's going up against my full ampeg bxt stack, and is intended to replace it. And as was mentioned, I play in a situation requiring deep punchy lows but prefer a bright hifi sound and use gobs of power, I've never been one to rely on pa support in Chicagolands crappy bars. The BXT's more than fit the bill but I'm sick of lugging around two heavy cabinets. Yes the 3101212 is LIGHTER than the bxt 410. But anyways, we'll see tomorrow night, finally... and I will post my full reviews.

It's been killing me to have had this cab for weeks now, and not being able to say a damned word about it. But I can say, Jorg has been nothing short of amazing in helping me out. He goes beyond customer service, into a realm not even touched by other companies you're used to dealing with. That alone has sold me.

I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to stand in front of that cabinet and play.

We did a benefit concert this past Friday night with 2 other bands. The one bassist was running through a 2x15" cabinet, the other through a 4x10" on top of a 1x15". You couldn't even see my 1210 on the stage compared to the other 2 rigs, but the "little Schroeder that could" blew both rigs away hands down in both volume AND tone :smug:

At one point during the sound check the sound guy called out to me confused because he couldn't figure out what channel I was going through on the board. You should have seen his face when I told him I wasn't DI'd through the PA and he came up to the stage to see what I was plugged into :D

In the beginning of this megathread there was some discussion about what acoustic principles the schroeder cabs are based on. I did not read the whole thread because it is far too long, so forgive me if i dig something up that has already been covered....
The schroeder cabs are not folded horns (mr. Schroeder also stated this), but the angled speaker fire into a triagluar chamber wich functions as a compression chamber. A folded horn also has a compression chamber wich unloads into a horn; schroeder cabinets unload their compression chamber into the room. This is why schroeder cabs have so much low-mid ooph: pure compression.
An interesting experiment would be to place the cab on the floor against the back wall of the stage whit the angled speaker facing down: now the compression chamber unloads into a horn formed by the floor and the back wall. Of course the tweeter would be in an awkward position, but you cannot have it all.
