Hey Tom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When are you going to get a Shroeder 1210? You know you
want one REAL BAD! Actually, I think you might like that box
very much.

I did get a chance to hear some of Jorg's cabs at Pete Skjold's shop, and while I did really like the 1210, I preferred the 1212 of the small boxes, and the 21012 of the large boxes. They all sound really good, though.

tired of shlepping 2 cabs, even if they're light and sound pretty damn good )about 63 pounds total, but also bought an Acoustic Image Focus 600 single channel, no reverb head. Now we're talking 51 total pounds for my rig instead of 117 and either one or 2 less trips to and from the car and up and down flights of steps, etc. etc.

My back and ears are feeling better already. Should have both in next two weeks. Will review thoroughly.

Ok, I guess I can give a shorty review based on first impression. Keep in mind this is in direct comparison to a bxt stack, consisting of 410, and 115. And we're talking about a 3101212 being driven by a plx1602 bridged with a compressed svp-bsp preamp on a maple cirrus.

Volume obviously is not a problem. I've never had a problem getting loud clean volume from the bxt stack either.

Initial tone and response, a bit darker, much more middy and punchy, not as clean and clear up high.

I dialed in the tweet a bit and messed with some eq'ing and got it close to the sound I liked on the ampeg stack, but still not as clean on the highs, and getting them to cut through without being tinny or biting is a bit tricky, but I got pretty close.

It does lack a bit of the deep shake your booty lows that the full stack can get, but the midbass bump is pretty tight and hits pretty hard, it took a bit of getting used to, but dialing it in through the night I got a sound I liked and found acceptable, I was however wearing earplugs the entire time, so my hearing was a bit skewed.

I like the sound, and I don't have to drive it very hard to get a good volume in the room, and obviously because of the angled 12's, I can stand off to the side and over by the guitar rig, and still hear my lows fine and play with confidence, that doesn't happen with the ampegs. I have to stay right in front.

The jury is still out on which I prefer, I can only keep one setup in the long run, and I really like the idea of a single cab to lug around, instead of two really heavy ones. My drummer says he likes the tone with the ampegs more, and I have to agree, to a certain extent. They do have a more natural hi-fi vibe and are really clean even at high volume, and get pretty deep almost dubby lows that the 3101212 struggles a bit to get since it is so responsive with the low mids. But the schroeder definitely doesn't sound bad, and I can dial in a tone rather close to the bxt's. but it projects more and fills a room more, but maybe at the sacrifice of a bit of hi-fi quality, certainly not volume.

In the real world, that characteristic probably is more useful than dubby lows on stage, and will really fill a club with sound. I definitely need a bit more time and tweaking to make my final decision, Either one is very good, and of course as has been mentioned a thousand times here, is a matter of preference, and what works in the real world.

I'd love to hear a 1210 or 1212 up against the 3101212 and see how they compare in tone, and even volume. Having one handy for smaller gigs would surely be nice instead of lugging around a 3101212.

I hope this is all helpful and coherent, and not too long winded. I'll post more feedback as I get more time with it. Unfortunately most of this evening was spent working on some new ideas, and not running through the set so I didn't get a true idea of what it can do when we're on the ball and in full swing.

Thanks for the honest review Troll. Perhaps the magic Schroeder formula doesn't scale up to work as well as it does with the smaller boxes. Did you get a chance to play through it with your band?

FWIW, I hope you get a chance to audition a 1210 or 1212 against the 3101212. I for one would be interested in your impressions of a comparison between the two. I can't say enough good things about my 1210. Of course at my age I wouldn't be caught dead lugging around 4x10 and 1x15 cabinets... Those days are long gone for me :hmm:

That's exactly the reason I'd love to put them side by side, to see how they scaled.

This was with the band, but like I said, we were working on a new tune, and not really going at it, and the drummer had a failing snare head so he wasn't full bore either.

Friday should be a good run so I'll get a better impression then.

I asked that question because I noticed when I first tried out the 1210 in my basement at a volume that I felt wouldn't prompt the neighbors to call the police, I didn't see (well, hear actually) what all the fuss was about. I thought it sounded good, but I can't say I was blown away by it (of course, part of that was that I also purchased a new GK head which took some getting used to). It wasn't until I brought it to a gig and cranked it that I immediately noticed an unbelievable improvement in punch, power and clarity over my old setup.

That alone made getting the 1210 worth it for me. I absolutely love that I can hear myself pretty much no matter where I am on stage in relation to the cabinet :smug:

Yessssssssss Ive made it the whole 1200 threads its taken a couple of weeks but it was worth the ride !

I know there have been loads of comparisons but what the heck i'll put mine in.

I run a Messa Boogie M2000 (600w into 4 ohms) into a EA NL210 & Cxl112 anybody have a comparison with the schoeders soundwise - possibly the 1010 & 1012 ?

Also does anyone know if The M2000 goes down to 2 ohms - i.e 2 schroeders or would one 1210 be as good as my current rig ?

surely this thread cant get much mightier - can it ?

I had two EA CXL-110's and the sound difference between the 1210 and the CXl-110 is quite different. The 1210 has MUCH more lowend and not so much in the upper-mid and highs. The CXLs are really punchy and the 1210 is close, but not quite as punchy in the upper-mids to my ears. For me, the 1210 fits better for what I'm doing now. I can get a much bigger sound when using my Eden WT-550 head.

Are you saying that your Schroeder, one cabinet, is being compared to two EA cxl 110's? I have a CXL 112 (was dropped off at the local music store for consignment sale this morning as a matter of fact!!!). If you're comparing the Schroeder 1210 to one CXL, with the comments you made, I'd be surprised.

I do know that my CXL112 is very "loud" for it's size, but it also is easily farted out at medium volume. I feel two of these would sound absolutely stupendous...upside......the downside: 88 pounds and $1600 new. Schroeder 47 pounds, $688 delivered. If the Schoeder overall is even close to the two EA's, be them 110's or 112's CXL's, I'm way ahead in money and schleppability/backache/hernia.

Even with two Schroeders instead of two EA cxl112's, I'm even shlepping wise with enough left in pocket to buy all my strings for 2 years. I have to believe....comparison to follow once my 1210 arrives, that the Schroeder will be louder than the EA CXL112. Will it sound as "balanced?" Maybe, maybe not? Will I be able to cut my carrying down to one cabinet most every gig, it BETTER!!!! Can I do that with one EA CXL112....absolutely not. Already tried it on 5 gigs. Needs a second cabinet in my circumstance. Love how it sounds. Just not enough volume and projection.

Larry,
I'll be interested in your review of the 1210 vs. the CXL112. I'm currently using two of the EAs and love the tone. The only cabs that I've even thought of since I bought these a couple years ago have been the Schroeders. I've been thinking about buying a 1212 + 1210 set up. I know I'll undoubtedly get more volume, but will I get that "studio monitor" clarity from the Scroeders? I'm concerned that I'll be loud but less clear, if that makes any sense?
Look forward to your (or anyone else's) direct comparison.
Thanks.

The M2000 min. impedence is 4ohm.
From other's accounts of the EA's mentioned, I'd say the NL210 is closer to the Schroeder sound than the CxL-112, but the Schro's have more of a mid/low-mid bump that helps with cutting through in a band setting.
If you can handle the weight, go for either a 21012 (if you like a thicker sounding low end) or a 410 (if you want great low end and amazing punch). All the Schro's have a bass-guitar-friendly musical nature to their sonic spectrum (even the treble).
If you have PA support and just need stage sound, the 1210 would probably be the ticket I'd recommend. The 1210 can get very loud and still sound wonderful, but if you play at ear-trauma levels and can't rely on PA support, you probably want (maybe) the 1212, one of the larger cabs, or multiple cabs with another amp (or add a power amp off your M2000 preamp -- yes you can do that).

I actually made the 1210 comparison at the 4ohm load, so it was 2 CXL-110s and the one 1210 w/ the same wattage. I never even compared one CXL-110 w/ the 1210 because it wasn't a fair comparison in volume since the 1210 was a 4ohm cab and the CXL-110 was an 8ohm cab. As you mentioned, the EA stuff seems to fart when pushed higher than half volume. The 1210 will fart out, but only at high volume. I haven't played the CXL-112, so I can't say how it would compare w/ the CXL-110, but I would assume that it would have a similar lowend response of the 1210 that the CXL-110 just can't get, even with two. Just my take...I still love a Euphonic cabs, but the Schroeder 1210 has been a godsend.

shelpping? decent tone. What's "funny" is that when I compare one of my LDS 208's with the CXL 112, 4 and 8 ohm mismatch like you mentioned, the CXL still's louder and has a much more "balanced" tone than one LDS, but both LDS's together, totally demoralize the CXL 112, but you're talking about 32 inches of speakers vs 12. But the two LDS's together are lighter and less expensive than the EA and mucho, mucho louder and nice sounding.

All I'm saying is that I don't feel it's only the ohmage difference. It's the sensitivity too...my LDS cabs are Acme-ish+ in their sensitivity...around 97...still better than acme's. But with 1200 watts pushing 'em, they really cut the muster. Unfortunately, in order to do so, I'm using a 57 pound rack of stuff with my head and the two cabs are a light 62 or 63 pounds total....that's still right at 120 pounds.

The upcoming Schroeder and the Focus 600 I bought too, are 51 total. For me, if the Schroeder and Focus is anything close to my current rig volume and tone wise, I'm big time ahead of the game. As a second choice, Acoustic Image has a 600 watt amp only that can be preamped with the Focus amp head and that would be used with the two LDS cabs for a total of 8 pounds for head and slave amp + 63 for two LDS cabs for a total of 71.

51 pounds, one trip to car for Focus head, one Schroeder 1210, and guitar.....or 71 pounds for 3 or 4 trips for Focus head, slave head, two LDS cabs, and guitar, or 120 pounds for 4 trips for two LDS cabs, SUnn 1200S rack, and guitar. Selection 1 and 2 are definitely preferred if there's enough money around....barely!!!! Hopefully the Focus will work as a head and the Schroeder will be toneful and voluminous.
