I am having a hard time deciding on which Shchroeders to buy

12x10 with 12x12 or
21012 ( larg box) as a stand alone or
21012 (large box) with 1210 ( medium box on top)
What do you guys think, I want to be able to cover all styles of music with one rig, I play 4's and fivers
Also I will be putting 1000 watts per side at 4 omhs, does anyone think this is too much?

I have the 1210/1212 and am throwing 1100 watts a side a 4 ohms to these cabs.

I absolutely love it. If I have a big gig, I bring both. If it's a smaller gig, I bring one cab, and have a choice of 12 and 10 or all 12s depending on the band, room etc.

as always, YMMV, IMHO and all that jazz. ;)

This is what I'm probably going to end up doing.

I was thinking about maybe saving and getting either a 21012 or 410, and setting my 1210 under or on top of it, but I mean come on- just look at what ONE of these cabs can do! ANd especially if you're pushing around 1,000w+/side to them, you're gonna hear yourself plenty loud. Plus, you get two, portable, loud cabs over a bigger one, but that's why I went to Schroeder in the first place! Maximum tone and volume with minimal space.

But yes, when I do get "famous" and make enough for people to carry MY junk around, it's a 2x21012, 2x410 and 2x310212 setup for me, my friends! :hyper: :bassist:

Well I just played an acoustic gig this weekend and I used my full rack with just the 1212!! OMG! This cabinet completely rocked. I used my Hofner with flat wound strings and it was perfect. It had all of the thumpy grumpy growley muddy tones I could push through it and it was great! If I had my Hofner running through a AC100 it would not have sounded so authentic. I am waiting for Jorg to get in the covers for the Mini 12. I want one :( , no I need one  GAS ON MY BREVERAND

I'm currently using a Fender Bassman 400 Head (not the new pro version but the black one rated 350 watts @ 4 ohm) to an older Hartke 410-XL (240 watt/8 ohm) cab. I am going to replace the Hartke cab with a 1210 or 1212, (I haven't decided which one yet.) What I'm wondering is will my 350 watt amp be powerful enough for these cabs? It seems that in most of the posts I've read, players are pushing 800+ watts to these cabs. Will I also be able experience the Schroeder "bass bliss" that others here have been describing with my measly little 350 watter?

Tonight I used my keyboard player's Hartke 5000 (500w) and it worked just fine...Saturday I took my brand spankin' new 1212 for a 3.5 hour test drive with my Mesa 400+ (300w) and it was killer...much better tone than the Hartke. I plan on using the Mesa400+/1212 set up for most of my shows, minus big outdoor shows.

When I first talked to Jorg and asked about being underpowered, he pretty much said not to worry, that it would be just fine.

I will picking up my 1212 this weekend and carry it home to Germany. I will report immediately after I fired it up. I plan to use it with my SVT4Pro. Any advise, if I should monobridge, or just use a single channel?

Jorg seems to be a great guy, really concerned about his customers. (There are not that many around any more)

Hugo, my suggestion is to mono-bridge. My 1210 handled my 4Pro just fine. It was nice having some headroom as well. I played with a very loud 7 piece band, with no PA support (smaller room) and the 4pro bridged/1210 was real nice.

MHO....always found having more power used at a slightly lower volume control number is better sounding than 1/2 the power from an individual channel.

I wanted to second the comment about less wattage than "800" being more than sufficient, with the caveat...depending on the head...some are overrated and some, like the Thunderfunk for example are underated, meaning that it's output volume wise sorta "defies" the wattage stated.

I'm using the Acoustic Image Focus 600 head (600 watts at 4 Ohms). I was worried that coming out of a Sunn head of 1200 watts at 2 ohms with my former speaker cabs that I wouldn't be loud enough with just 600 watts and the single Schroeder. Turns out that at less than 1/2 it's potential volume, my 1210 Schroeder/AI combination is cleaner, punchier, outright louder, and just darn better sounding than ANY Hartke, SWR, Eden, Sunn, GK, Peavey, EA or other rig I've used AND I'm carrying a 51 pound total package. I also have the Selenium speakers which have a 750 watt cabinet capacity rather than the stock speakers which are higher wattage...850 I believe.

I believe that a "higher" quality, understated 400 or more watt head @ 4 ohms probably should push any of the "small" box Schroeder cabs more than sufficiently.

Wow great customer service. I haven't ordered a cab yet but Jorg helped me narrow down my choices out of his 3 largest boxes for my situation after I told him what I was looking for. He also asked about my gear to see what I had to better assess what i needed. If I can swing it I'll be getting a 410 or a 310212 very soon!

I'd like to clarify a little issue;
A few Schroeder owners wanted a little more aggressive horn,
that's where the Selenium comes in as option;the woofers are identical, except Larry's who needed a cabinet and I offered him a proto type with Selenium woofers but less wattage on the ground to use it until his cabinet has been completed or to keep it if he likes it.

thanks everyone

Jorg

Jorg had a prototype cab and I had 5 gigs coming up. I obviously decided to keep the cabinet. It definitely has an agressive top end without it being harsh. I'm about a 99% finger player but need the high end to come through. I run my Focus head with the treble and bright wide open, have Jorg's cabinet's horn attentuation on about 11 o'clock, and have the treble and passive tone control on my Lull M5V all the way up.

The ping on the d and g strings are amazing and on the rare occasion I slap/pop, it really cuts through but because I have an abundance of bottom too and slightly boosted over flat mids, it's not lost in the mix. Everyone within 100 feet of the cabinet knows I'm doing it but wonders where the sound came from because I don't do it very often or for more a pop or two.

I'm not really sure about what the difference tonewise is between the prototype I bought and Jorg's "regular" speakers, but I'm totally satisfied with this cabinet...it really sounds great with my style, head, bass, bands, venues. You name it.

It was mainly my fault, I was sure that Selenium was the kind of tweeter, not the woofer's maker, my apologies to everyone for the confusion...

For those people who've replied to and read this thread that think for a second that you need anything more than a couple of 1210's, I'd say you're in severe need of a hearing test or getting the wax washed out of your ears.

When I first started playing "louder" in bands, we had Altec Voice of the Theatre bottoms for vocals. We had bass bins but there wasn't a whole bunch of choice of power amps that were affordable, so the bass guitar and bass drum did get mic'd up but not with 750-2000 watts per bass bin like today.

With what's out there now in PA equipment, why on earth would you need more than a couple of these great Schroeder cabs or one of the medium or larger ones with a 750-1000 watt amp? You guys are all gonna go deaf thinking you need that much stage volume. I can't imagine what my rig would sound like if I added another 1210 and an Acoustic Image 600 watt slave amp, or bought a preamp and a power amp that had 600+ watts per cabinet @ 4 ohms. It would be totally deafining and too freakin' loud balance wise on stage and probably off.

You guys thinkin' becuase you're using 2 15's or 810's now need to wake up and move yourselves into the 21st century dudes. There's plenty of clear, clean bottom end to these and many other great cabs without needing 150 pounds of speakers.
