sounds like the 1212 with a little bass roll off might suit you. They are real close tone wise to me. The 1212 cuts fine :D

I don't think I could pick out the 1212 by it's weight against the 1210... but my 1210 is the last revision before the final, it might weigh different than the current 1210.

OK, so I've been lurking on this thread for many, many months now. I've had my 1210 for about 3 months, played it on many gigs. I LOVE it!! However, I feel compelled to say what I DON"T like about it. I think at low volume the thing sounds really bad. I know everyone's going to hate me but I can't put my finger on it. It's been said repeatedly that they don't sound great till you crank them up a little, I would take that a step further and say they sound bad at low volumes. This has not been a problem for me because I also love my ACME B-1. Maybe I just need to keep trying to tweak it but I really don't have any motivation to do so. If it's a low volume gig I take the ACME, otherwise I happily take my Schroeder. Being this really is a Schroeder "Love Fest" I just thought I would offer some counter point. As for the original question (1210 or 1212): I am a low end sort of guy and my 1210 with an Eden 550 is all I could ever dream of. I roll the knob on the Schoeder back to around 10 o'clock, the Eden is always basically flat and I'm a Happy Camper. I didn't tell my band of my new purchase and all 3 members noticed I was cutting through better, as has been said here many times before. Also, our band usually draws a fair amount of musicians to our gigs and I've had nothing but praise for my rig. There is a lot of talk here about 2 - 1212's or a 1210 and a 31012 or whatever. I play 2 or 3 nights a week and I haven't came close to needing more than my 1210. It's awesome. I'm not a touring musician nor do I have any experience with that kind of thing, but for what I do, (harmonica, guitar, drums) in all different kinds of clubs, I'm in heaven. OK, so I'm keeping the love fest going after all......

I would agree partially with that statement except I wouldn't say they sound bad at low levels, just not as good as when you give them some watts and turn it up. I've noticed that while they are very efficient cabs, they actually sound and operate to me better at higher wattages. That's why I'm considerring getting a larger power amp (1000-1500 watts) and using my Eden WT-550 as a preamp when I feel the need to turn up for my two 1210s.

Alright, enough dilly dallying...

Regarding the schroeder cabs I am trying to decide b/n the 1212 and the 1210. From what i have read this is what i gather when compared to each other:

1212 pros

-louder
-never a concern about not enough lows

1212 cons

-slightly heavier
-too much like a sub woofer sound?
-my main concern is that it wont cut in a loud two guitar rock band

1210 pros

-it will definitely cut
-slightly lighter

1210 cons

- too much mid for my taste?
-not as loud

While I like lows I dont want it to be overly low, but at the same time i dont want it to be middy either. I play in a classic rock band so it should be suitable for that application, but also i want it to be adaptable to all rock situations. In any event I could probably eq either to get the sound I am after, I would just rather not have to eq too much if i could just purchase the right cab in the first place.

Both cabs have VERY good low end response.
To me the 1210 is more balanced and has a punchier sound & the 1212 has a rounder tone.

I have a 21012 and a 1210. I use the 21012 for most gigs and the 1210 for smaller gigs. QSC PLX 2402/ SansampRBI as the engine room. To me the 21012 always had more bottom and punch than the 1210. It should. However a month ago I purchased a ThunderFunk 420 from The Bass Gallery to use when I only needed the 1210 for an easier load in and out. When I hooked the T/F to the 1210 I couldn't believe the sound. It has the same bottom and punch as the 21012 with the PLX/RBI. The 1210 will give you some serious bottom if you can get it there. The T/F and 21012 is even better.

O.K. folks, I just got back from my open jam with 21012 cab and WOW! Jorg made it a point to tell me that his cabs are not power hungry and I agree. I used my old Apeg SVT 4 pro ( I wish I hadn't sold it) and the 21012 (one chanel, 490 watts) and this cab cranked out all of the goods with plenty to spare in case I would have needed it. At one point we had a guitar player, harp, keys, congas and drums and I had no problem hearing myself. I like to dial in the low midrange spectrum and this cab provided it with clarity and punch, just as promised. If I would have been using my Ampeg BXT 4x10 I would have had to turn the volume up just until the limiter came on. But with this cab, I was able to get the volume and tone and still have headroom. The 600 watt rms Ampeg is more power hungry than the 21012 by far. I realize that 4 ten inch speakers will consume more power because of inefficiency, but I still do not get the bottom end that the 21012 provides. Next I will order my 1210 to go on top of my 21012, I cant wait. :)

I think I may go for the 1212. I like that it is louder. However I am concerned that the cab requires lots of volume to open up /sound better. My band practices in a room a little larger than the average sized bedroom so I cant crank my rig very much at all. If that prohibits the 1212 from sounding good that would make the 1210 a better choice.

Here is a question. Can the 1212 be EQd to sound like the 1210? ie roll off the bass a tad and boost mids a little. This would require less power of my amp than if i got the 1210 and added bass eq.

I used my Schroder 1210 at the house of Blues Restaurant room, what I'd call a medium / med small room...probably seats 100 at tables + another 25 at bar + standing room. Our soundman came up to me after a couple of tunes and said "how loud are you onstage? Do you like how it sounds up here?" I told him it wasn't cranked up and I liked the tone.

He said "perfect"...It sounds great and cuts without you're being the in the PA at all." I strongly prefer that. If there's a room where I just can't cut through or in inorder to I have to be way too loud on stage, those are the only times I want to go through the pa. Although my AI Focus has a direct out and it sounds pretty good, our pa just can't make my bass sound like the Schroeder can...

Very cool!

Tone + Projection + Manageable Size = what makes the Schroeder cabs so nice for the gigging bassist!
