I must ask, however, about what heads you guys are pairing with your cabs? From what I've read, these cabs are very highend, so I'm assuming you guys are also pairing them with highend heads, no? My question is this: Have you tried combining a Schro cab with a lowend head? If so, how'd it work?
I pair My 1210 with a GK 700RB, the sound is just fabulous, punchy, tight. here is the rig(note the homemade "cow" flightcase :D )

I run my pair (1210 & 1212) with a Peavey Classic 400 (similar to the V8... it also has 8x KT88 power section). To my ears, I've never heard a better rig.

James, your not supposed to tell me that :p Now it makes more more confused.. How are the tonal characteristics of your rig? I would suppose my situations are a little different to yours. I'm playing in a loud psychedelic rock band (link in my sig, not the best recordings though) and want DEEP tight lows, lots of growl and want to be able to cut through very nicely with punch. When i'm talking about cutting through, I mean really cut through as well, like a knife through hot butter ;) The sterling helps me with that, as it's a pretty bright and snappy bass.

What you think? Too much to ask? Most likely :p The only artist i've heard get what I really like is Dirk Lance.. Though I don't have the dough (Or back) for a 410 x2 + 18 + Eden Nav + Eden WT1000 + Warwick Streamer Stg 2 Rig ;). He's is a little too hi-fi for me at times though. But that's the sort of cut i'm after..

Done! After weeks of reading a few pages at a time, I have made it to the end of the Schroeder thread! Incidentally, just yesterday I sealed a deal with our own Big Joe to take a 1210 off his hands! I can't wait to get this baby and see how she sounds through my Read Purity/QSC rig. :hyper:

Would be interested to know to. But then again, I can start finding out this afternoon. My 1212 arrives today! And I plan to drive it with a Read Purity/QSC as well.

And the 1210 arrives mid next week! WOO HOO! Then I'll be set.

I, like so many others, attempted to read the 90 pages of material. After awhile, it tended to get quite repetitive. Nonetheless, I am a convert. It sounds too good to be true, yet supposedly it is true.

I emailed and asked Jorg, but I would like to hear your opinions as well. What would be the minimum head required to make one of these guys sing properly? Will it affect performence to downgrade the head? If so, how much?

Let me know! Thanks guys!

I drive my 1212 (first one in Germany !! :hyper: ) through an Ampeg SVT Pro4, full low and high end booster plus U-shape equalizer, mono-bridged 1200W, beautyful !

It looks like a description of the 1210 i can't talk about others(1212, 21012 etc...) but there is no better sound description than what it is said here.
With the 1210 I can play in loud southern rock band(à la Lynyrd with steroids,BLS etc...) as well as in small acoustic bands with accordion, playing jazz, tango, waltz and bossas.
The sound is as good played a low volume as it is played very loud... but I prefer to play loud of course... :D

I drive my 1210 with an Eden WT550 and it can get very loud, very easily. I have tried several preamp/poweramp combinations and I keep going back to the WT550, lighweight and very toneful. And I really can't say enough about the Schroeder, I love it. It is very effecient as others have posted in this mega thread.

Are Schroeders power-hungry? How would an Eden WT-400 go with a 1210? Or even a Mini 12+? I'm looking for a small 4 ohm cab that would match this amp nicely.

I too have a Eden WT-550 and I can vouch that it has plenty of volume, so I would assume that the WT-400 should be adaquet as well. Even though the WT-550 is adaquet, I'm still looking for more volume. I think the more wattage you give the cabs, the better they sound as others have mentioned in this thread, so for me, I'm looking for a power upgrade, but still, the WT-550 will give you good volume.

With the GK700rb 380W I can drive the 1210 without any problem, it might fart if I really push the volume but I don't have to go that far.

Schroeder's cabs (at least the 1210) are very efficient, I tried the cab with my old Randall RB125, a 120W combo and it sounded great and quite powerful despite the low wattage of the combo.

How much gig could I handle using a single Mini 12+, 1210, or 1212 with my Read Bass Purity preamp / Stewart World 1.2?

Thanks,
Tom H.

Me too, me too! Would like to know myself, as I have the same exact rig -- using the 1210 and/or the 1212 with a Read/Stewart 1.2.

I know the 1212 seems to be pretty dang loud. THe 1210 arrives on Friday. so I can't be for certain yet. Bet the whole thing togehter is KILLER!

How would one record with a Schroeder with the tilted section and all. Just hsve the mic in front of it instead of pointing the mix towards a single speaker?

Looking at a 310212 and after I get it we will be hitting the studio soon after so I would like to know how to best mic up this cab or any of Jorg's cabs for that matter.

I would point the mic at the front-facing speaker. That's where the majority of the tone will be if you are close to the cabinet. To get a "picture of the whole thing" would require quite some distance between the mic and the cab, thus introducing a lot of room noise. Then again, if you are recording with the cab in a good sounding, relatively dry room with complete insolation, then you might be able to get a good sound with the mic some distance back from the cab.

A lot of Paul McCartney's later Beatles bass tracks were recorded as overdubs in a such a situation with a Neuman 47 microphone in "figure eight" mode. It does take a bit of experimenting (moving the mic closer and farther away by just a few inches) to get it right but the results can be quite good.

Don't bother with the distant micing approach if you are in a hurry or you're recording within the same room as the other instruments.

Just my $0.02 worth.

What do you guys think about this..

Right now i'm using a Trace V8.. It's loud and it's 400 Watt all tube. I wouldn't mind be able to push it hard enough for it to overdrive a little whilst still been at reasonable levels. For this I can run it on half power (200 watt).
Thing is, if I get a 310212, am I not going to be able to push the amp to those levels where it will break up without the audience losing their hearing? Would I be better off with a 21012?

Then again, I think i'd like the sound characteristics of a 310212 more than a 21012, as the added 12 is what i'm after. But then I havn't tried one.. If I got a 21012, I could add a 1210 later on, but it would take me a while to get the money.
My other option is two medium cabs. Say 1210 + 1212. The only problem with this is i'd have to wait a little while for the second cab and in the mean time i'll be playing some serious gigs both inside and out where we will be loud. I'd rather not go this route.

So what do you guys think? Should I just get a 310212 now and be done with it? Or should I get a 21012 now, and then late this year/early next year get a 1210?
