By the way has a new rather tasty SEI original bass sneaked onto the SEI web-site:

The web-site says its a picolo bass, though I have not spoken with Martin about it. Any one know the details?

Hey guys - some more pics of my new jazz it's looking incredible already and it's hardly even started yet - I have a very good feeling about this bass - and I cant wait to have a four sting again!

There's another Flamboyant with a Thuya burr top nearing completion in the workshop as well - looks like another jaw-droppng beauty - Martin and John and on stunning form right now ;) - I'm so happy to be a SEI owner - yes!

That jazz is looking really really nice. I am not usually a fan of spalt but yours is making me rapidly change my mind. How long do you think it will be before it is ready?

That looks really interesting and I just love the Original headstock which reminds me a little of Wal but is more flowing in it's finish, if that makes sense.

Btw how is the progress on your 9 string?

Hey Chaps, still lurking in the wilds of Japan. Just wanted to give props to Martin (& John). I was having issues with a buggered truss-rod hex-nut:help:, & despite his obviously hectic schedule Martin took a good 20-30 minutes on the phone helping out with all kinds of advice (including the method that I used to fix the problem, which I'm not going to write in case anyone tries it & blames me for the consequences..).
Interestingly enough, the truss-rod on my Sei runs opposite to all my other basses. I'm not sure if this is the general rule but if so it's worth noting on this forum in case anybody else has problems in this area. Any comments?
By the way, apologies to Mike F if my phone-call delayed the progress of yer new jazz...nice top;)!!

Thanks Matt - realistically I don't think it'll be ready until at least the middle of next year but you never know - do Jazz's take less time to make? I'm obviously in the priveleged position of owning a Sei so I'm not as angsty as I was about the first one - I am however very much looking forward to this bass - I love playing 5 string now but I was 4 banger for most of my life - so it'll be amazing to have a top quality 4 stringer back in my life again! Anyway I have a great feeling aboutthis bass - we have some nice ideas for the ramp and the neck/headstock should bring the whole thing together looks-wise - when the finish goes on though - that's when the party really starts... that spalt is gong to be a real showstopper.

Hey guys, I'm considering selling my series 1... Previously owned by kevin lindsay. For various reasons, the first one being that it doesn't get played as often as it should. Really really not. Wich is a shame. I already have another frettless iceni funkmeister wich i love and kinda prefer and can't justify having a 2200£ frettless that doesn't get really played. I'm not sure yet. But in the situation i'd get rid of it. Would any of you be tempted??

I don't have pictures. But you lots all know how amazing it looks.

Really not sure yet. But if any of you's interested. let me know. Just so i know!

Thanks for asking. The SEI 9 is coming along, with the neck and wings glued together and the channels cut for the carbon rods & truss rods. Still too early for pictures of the bass, but here is one of the Delano pickup (MC9HE/S-4):

Well, let's see what basses Martin has been gracious enough to make me over the years:

1 - All started with an Original shape fretless 5 - full facings on front and facing on rear of burl walnut. Single Bartolini Musicman style pickup. Unlined fingerboard with red side dot LEDs.

2 - Then, 6 string fretted - plain fingerboard face (ebony) with red LED side dot markers. Faced front and rear with honey coloured flamed maple. I sold that one after crashing my motorbike - my left hand was kind of cramped for a while, so the wide neck 6 string was sitting at home not being played.

3 - Then had a fretless 5 headed bass made - unlined board yet again, with red side dot LED markers. 2 pickup layout this time - wide aperture humbucker in bridge, and narrow aperture humbucker in the neck position. Quilted maple facing on that one.

4 - 5 string Jazz in vintage sunburst over quilted maple facing. front dots on the rosewood board were abalone - both the front dots and side dots had SIMS blue LEDs underneath.

5 - next came along a 4 string Flamboyant fretless - faced with Amboina which was cut at an angle to give a "rope like" flame to the wood's figuring - very cool. The pickup system on that one was a Lightwave system - first Lightwave system used on a bass in Europe as a matter of fact! Red side dot LEDs yet again.

6 - then there was the 5 string honeyburst Jazz bass with the block & bound neck. Seymour Duncan 5 string P & J pickups on that one. The electronics on it were a customised East preamp - simplified to remove all those switches. Guess what - red side dot LEDs as well!! Flamed maple facing ove alder on this bass.

7 - Fretted Singlecut 5 with full Buckeye burl facings on front and rear - that was the one with the rear wood having the "Jabba The Hutt" image in there. Side dot LED markers once again - but this time in white!

8 - Fretless Singlecut 5 with full facing Macassar ebony on front and rear. White side dot LED markers on that one.

No news on my Jazz bass really, I'm hoping to get a chance to pop in next week, but I did just get an Epifani UL210 to go with my UL502 amp and the Sei sounds awesome through the all Epi rig...! It feels like a perfect match of bass and amp now... anyway I made a new video of me jamming over a loop with my Boss RC2 - and you can really hear the full range of tones from this amazing bass:

there's a VERY nice all black headless Sei for sale on consignment at the Bass Gallery right now. Sounds growly and punchy as heck and its in great nick and light as a feather. If it was a 5 I wouldn't have hesitated in snagging it for myself.

ive pretty much just discovered the Sei basses.
the Original model with headless necks are sexxxxy.
i want a 5 string. i guess i better start saving haha.
based on what ive seen, they seem fairly affordable compared to other brands like alembic and fodera.

I really like this one, but id want green LED inlays. and maybe black hardware. as far as electronics im not sure what id want.
