Dingwall was the wonders of ebay, is an Afterburn I 6 string so not a really expensive one. I also got an EBS Fafner for £500, now I just need a top end cab to come up cheap and my flooky rig will be complete

Absolutely true. Many a year ago Martin sold only headless basses and he had ABM build him bespoke headless bridge units that contained serial numbers (my old SEI 5 flamboyant was serial number 24).

When he started doing headed basses he initially used hand cut brass truss rod covers that were etched with the SEI name and serial number. However he found customers were not that interested in them (as well as tending to loose them), so he switched to the very common approach of exposed truss rod ends. I believe the serial numbering also went about the same time as the brass truss rod covers did. My SEI 8 does not have a serial number and neither will the SEI 9 when it is done.

My first Sei was serial number 7, it was a 5 string flamboyant hybrid with beautiful quilted maple facings.

I saw that 9 string bass the other day, Alex was looking to see if he could find anything of my new fretless to show me, it's going to be a beautiful bass.

6stringbassist, you might have posted about your new SEI fretless, but I honestly have forgotten it :( Please would you remind us the details...

I went up to The Gallery on Saturday and left my fretted 7 there as a commission sale.

Part of me wants to sell it and part of me does not. I will have to wait and see what happens

Matt,
I had a play on it today, as I was in the area. It's an incredible instrument. The shop assistant was incredibly grumpy, unfortunately (Monday morning I suppose) so I didn't stay long.

Matthew, you know my thoughts about your beautiful bass. I continue to pray that everything works out...

Pierreganseman, hang in there re waiting for your bass. You are at one of the hardest points of the wait, where there has been very little visible progress for quite some time. After about 5-6 months it all suddenly seems to kick off and the ride becomes quite exciting!

Bad news man - sorry to hear you have to let this beauty go - you probably have already thought of this but it may be worth posting in the Basschat market place as well.
