Self-quarantine plans

We had a conference call about what would happen if we had to shut down & it was mentioned we would work from home. I don't even want to work at work. Can't imagine what will happen if it comes to me being at home with all my gear

i drive school bus- I can't wait to work from home! ;)

We aren't in the same position. Italy didn't shut down the flights from China like we did. Therefore it is quite a difference from here. From the first case here, we have had 44 deaths. In Italy, they were having that many daily. Quite a difference. I guess we can all believe whatever we want to believe.
Again, no .. in reality, Italy was the only country in Europe which shut down all flights from and towards China almost immediately; a joint study from British and German researchers has demonstrated that the virus was brought to Italy through Germany, where it was spread by a Chinese businesswoman who’s working for the Chinese branch of a company working in the automotive field (Webasto).
The Italian ISS (High Institute for public Health) has officially stated that the virus circulated in northern Italy since mid January; however, its effects have often been mistaken as those of the normal, seasonal flu until the number of anomalous pneumonia-affected people became noticeable.
By that time the number of people who contracted the virus, alongside, probably, with a not completely appropriate virus containment strategy, was sufficient to cause the situation in which we currently are ...

There are multiple reasons that Italy has a higher death rate than we do . One is their population is the oldest in Europe and older than ours . Another reason is the air pollution rates of Italian cities are much higher than is generally the case in Europe - causing more respiratory illness and susceptibility to respiratory illness . It's not as simple as simply who banned flights from China first . They are ahead of us in exposure timing for sure and we can only hope we end up being less affected than they were .... Kelly

I'm pretty well set to work from home. If I go into real quarantine, as in getting sick, then I've got a spare room in the basement waiting for me, a really boring but valuable textbook (Machine Learning in Python), and my upright with plenty of scales to choose from. I've already decided if we survive this, I will reward myself with a new fretless.
Amen! x2

I was looking at Orbitz tonite because I saw that airlines are slashing fares and I wanted to check out how much... Turns out we could go to Fiji for a week for less than $1000 per person next week. I think we might be considering it if they close the kid's school... Just make her attend online from the pool

Music teacher in elementary school here, Montréal, Canada: schools shutting down for two weeks to help reduce the exponential curve of the virus. So, I'll do what I was supposed to do on Holydays and spring breaks: learn to play properly my two new acquired basses (newbie here).

As a sidenote, the numbers here aren't that alarming (17 cases in our province as today, no fatalities and 152 cases total for entire country, one death). But it was similar in Italy (correct me if I'm mistaken) in January. Better overreact than the opposite. Two known cases in Italy as of January 31 and now, 17660...

I know that influenza kills a lot more of people each year in Canada but with this new virus, no real known numbers and no "expiration " date known neither...

Something I find rather telling about all this.

Post 911 we shoveled billions into so-called “preparedness.” Even went so far as to create a couple of new federal mega-agencies and create a new Homeland Security cabinet level department to oversee and supposedly coordinate all our various emergency services and response apparatus.

And looking at how “brilliantly” we’ve handled some major natural disasters before Covid showed up at our door, I think it’s pretty obvious not much useful work has been accomplished on that front beyond buying military and similar gear and training for law enforcement and doing some PR window dressing over the last 20 years.

This was all supposed to have been corrected quite awhile ago. So why are our emergency services still so fragmented after all the money and time spent on them over two decades?

Telling you the answer would violate TB policy on political discussion.

Agree.

I worried I might already be skating pretty close to the edge merely for asking people to think about these things like I was. So beyond asking the question I thought it best to stay well within the TB guidelines by avoiding anything political and keeping it to a simple question about management and performance. :)

Subbed at a music college last night. Instructor is under direction to convert music performance class into remote learning asap. He had some great ideas.

Got home, my wife had instructions from college to do same.

Me? I am going back to the Big Bend.
The Big Bend plan got scrapped pretty quick. Everybody else had the same idea.

I am going to sit put in my Fortress of Solitude.

We'll probably just hang out at home, re-string the bows, and stoke the fires under the oil cauldrons...

That pic would be a great album cover !

Reminded me of an old lyric I wrote.

The Wizard Works Tonight

clouds pass between his failing eyes
and the bright Hunters Moon
he draws down its' energy
he’ll draw his circle soon
on an altar made of solid oak
he’ll lay his magick tools
and through the incense rising smoke
he’ll glide the tarots’ fool

“Hear my cry My Maiden
My Mother and My Crone
for the greatest rite I have not worked
comes not while I’m alone”
Earth and Water feed his desire
on this waxing night
in the chilling Air and by candles Fire
the Wizard works tonight

the waning days have passed on by
as the moon returns from new
did he see her yesterday
in the steam of his cauldrons’ brew ?
perhaps tonight by the Maidens’ grace
he’ll know the very night
and on that night he’ll know her face
and work the fertile rite

“Hear my cry My Maiden
My Mother and My Crone
for the greatest rite I have not worked
comes not while I’m alone”
Earth and Water feed his desire
on this waxing night
in the chilling Air and by candles Fire
the Wizard works tonight

now Mother is full and beyond stone walls
wind carries passionate cries
the Wizard and his mortal maiden
work the greatest rite

I social distancing, washing the hell out of my hands (after all just following the govt instructions to stay well), looking and counting my "stash" of Toilet Paper, making my own nose and throat spray, making hand sanitizer by the jug. Spraying the house down with Lysol, and everyone that comes in the door too..

Oh yeah, and playing on my basses too, and just put Foot Switch Caps on my pedals so they are easy to push barefoot. Who needs shoes when you're social distancing, much less staying in the lounge pants and tee shirt all day???? LOL

I'm already looking to ditch my newfound employer. This extended spring break is going to hurt. I committed to a year of work in exchange for paid CDL training, but am finding myself in quite a bind with nothing set in stone for a return-to-work date. I cannot afford this!

More of a temporary journey into the realm of stupidity actually... :)

On another note... I went shopping two days ago and actually forgot to get TP. I had noticed that I was on my last roll. This morning I went back to get some and found that there is nowhere in my local area to buy any. There where people waiting to check out with buggies overflowing with all that the store had, and they where refusing to share their hordes.
lol Yeah, I've had those moments. And I agree with Eddie about Dollar Stores - they rule. Their business model includes high sales volume/low shelf space, so they get trucks pretty much daily. We make Costco runs every three or four months and probably most of our groceries between that come from our local Dollar General. Unfortunately they don't have powdered milk which we need for the bread machine - but they do have toilet paper.
