Self-quarantine plans

They've shut down schools and given kids an extra week of spring break in my area.. we had our first confirmed case of COVID and he's in self quarantine. There was a press conference.. words like state of emergency were used, although not quite in effect.

I went out to meet friends yesterday for lunch.. they were scared of hugs and handshakes.

I go to meet with my band tomorrow.. my guitarist is actually playing a gig in one of his other projects tonight.

Ultimately.. my day to day life isn't going to change much from this as it stands right this moment. But I'm home most of the time.

schools, universities will be close monday. And since midnight, all shops, restaurants, are close except food shops and medical ones until further notice. All events are cancelled.. 2000 cases more in the country in 48 hours.. it seems that we follow Italy .. o_O

Doctors have said today to avoid any Ibuprofen and corticoide treatment if you got covid: it could help the disease to the worst: they say now that 50 per cent of worrying cases are under 50 years old.. Only paracetamol is ok..

It’s actually super easy. Just meadure and mix the four ingredients and knead. Takes all of 8 minutes tops. And that’s dragging your feet doing it. The rise takes care of itself. Transferring it to the baking pan and punching it down takes another half minute. The second rise takes care of itself. The baking takes care of itself. All you need to do is put it in and take it out when it’s done. Your total time invested is maybe ten minutes.

I’ll throw it together right after breakfast. Do the rise, punch down, and second rise while I’m doing other stuff and put it in the oven around 11:00.

Fresh loaf for lunchtime! Easey-peasey! Yay!

These loaves have decent shelf life when kept in your usual plastic bread bag.

It’s been a long time since we’ve eaten store bought bread in our house.

BTW, I know I said let it completely cool before cutting, but we usually only let ours sit for maybe an hour before we’re digging in.

I forgot to suggest putting a shallow pan of water in the bottom of your oven when you’re baking most breads if you like a crispier crust. That’s a basic bread making technique, so maybe not everyone knows to do that.
Thanks, I did not know that about the water.

I can already see problems though. My grandson has the flu this week, so my wife hasn't been picking him up at school (I take him in the mornings.) She's gone out of the house maybe twice this past week, once to take him to the doctor and then to the bookstore (because that's what you do now when a thirteen year old has just been diagnosed with the flu, apparently) and once to Dollar General. I've been traveling to out-of-town projects a few days this week and took off yesterday, didn't leave the house. Today's she's absolutely stir crazy. I ran out to Walgren's to pick up a bass I bought from Goodwill (I divert to Walgren's because they use FedEx and historically FedEx has about a 25% chance of delivering my stuff to my house, or indeed to my street) and she rode with, then we stopped once again at Dollar General. She's so giddy that you'd swear she's drunk. My wife, who bitterly complains about having to ever leave the house, has cracked under the strain of the lock-down and it hasn't even started yet. This could be bad. This could be real bad. I may not survive surviving coronavirus . . .

I hear you. At this point the two biggest dangers are the economic and psychological ramifications rather than medical issues.

Chalk that up to two decades of government instigated fear mongering coupled with a great deal of learned helplessness on the part of many in our society who have repeatedly been told: “you can’t make it on your own - seek help.”

But whatever. Like the song says, “we shall endure as we pass surely through every storm.” Not like we have any real say or choice in the matter either way, right? ;)

I personally have a lot of faith in people. And so far it hasn’t been misplaced except for the inevitable few individuals we all occasionally encounter. The Sesumarongi, that most “backward” of tribes, are all around us.:thumbsup:

Let's see social distancing........

I get full control of the remote control,
no shoes and stay in lounge pants and tee shirt all day,
eat what I want at what ever time I want,
drink more alcohol (which kills the virus) since I'm not going out,
and don't worry about putting up with idiots,
play on my basses all I want, whenever I want,
even doing some cleaning and polishing on those babies,
and just put foot switch caps on my pedals making them easy to push with bare-feet (I guess upgrading my equipt),

Man I'm seeing a few perks here....

I plan to complete my first draft of my second book.

The focus of the book is anxiety.

Perfect timing, if ya ask me.

Oddly enough, I plan using much of this time to finish my second book (volume two of this one)... though not about anxiety- it sure does cause me plenty until it's printed and in hand.

You’re welcome to have one. No charge. :)

C’mon inside too while you’re at it and have a cuppa with us, meet our dog (he loves it when we get company) and tell us all about your sixer. Plug in while you’re at it and give us a demo too. I’m still semi-gassing about getting one of those.

(Addendum: And 3 Victories? Oh man! Here comes the green eyed monster.)
Actually I am going to eat some bread, drink some coffee, pet the Dog, and do up the dishes, YOU are to going to be playing the 6’er.

Afterwards I’ll take it for a spin. In the meantime you’re our guest. You get to hang and relax. It’s only after you been here a few days you’ll be allowed to lend a hand.

We take our cue. from an old Eastern European adage that goes: “Treat your guest as a guest for three days. On the fourth day, after breakfast, hand him a hoe and invite him to join you out in your field.” :smug:;)

Petting Fen (short for Fender) isn’t optional however. You will pet the dog. He’ll see to it that you do. Trust me.

There’s often a silver lining to every dark cloud. You just have to look for it.

Well I played the last two nights and have another tonight. Both nights very slow. Last night owners said let's call it early. We agreed, at a cut in pay, I said no argument from me. We made up the dif in the tip jar so it was a wash. I do think we need to be flixible. Thursday night I subbed for one of the best jazz upright players in town because he's 70's with issues and he took himself of the market until further notice. (I would have never been hired otherwise). Flakbook here is full of friends cancelled gigs and tours. I'm expecting my upcoming gigs to cancel any minute too.
It was unusualy quiet too, folks speaking low tones just a somberness in the air.
I said to the guys on stage I think I know how the band of the Titantic felt. It wasn't meant so much as a joke as more an observation of how serious it's getting. Was thinking today I should look at my will and maybe reallocate some basses to young guys likely to be around, since I've got a couple of dozen. I'm saying a prayer for everyone.

Well, as of Friday all Pennsylvania schools are closed for two weeks... So my wife, and middle daughter are off. My oldest daughter is going to have a baby this Friday. I don't know if I should go to the hospital or not. That's my main concern.
I have a series of gigs coming up at the end of the month that are all centered around the largest chainsaw carving event in the US. There's usually people from all over the world that participate. I won't be surprised if that gets shut down.
Think well.
Be well.

So our spring break went from one week to two. Won’t be shocked if that turns in to 3 or 4. The district wants distance learning to happen during the break. As an elementary music teacher I have doubts as to how effective that’ll be. Teaching in a poor community where WiFi and device access is limited will also have an impact. So I’ll practice and probably get out on the kayak a bit.

As for the comparisons to past epidemics and the roll of the media, I think the response by all of the major sports leagues is telling. H1N1 and Ebola didn’t shut those down. I can’t believe those leagues walked away from all that $ without having experts convince them we are at a place we’ve never been before. I’m all in on social distancing.

Well, as things stand right now nobody from Europe will be attending. President’s orders y’know?

Europeans can still come through Canada, which is what I suspect quite a few folks that have serious business ventures will be doing.

Whether a chainsaw event in PA qualifies as such an event remains to be seen, but I wouldn't be too optimistic.
