Self-quarantine plans

I’m writing a song called Self Quarantined.

I’m having a tough time because lyrically it’s turning out 1/2 funny...
“Runnin to the store for some TP to score.
I'd better get some soup and some chicken tandoor.”

...and 1/2 serious...
“You're getting prepared. And you're stocking up things.
Would you rather have more, than your fellow human beings.”

I might just write two.

The CDC is now recommending that all events of 50 people or more be cancelled for the next 8 weeks.

I know there are people that can’t afford this and my heart goes out to them. But on the flip side I’m sure I’m not the only one here wondering, if the venue owners or local authorities don’t call for an all out ban, should I just inform the BL I need to bail for a bit. Those folks in the at risk groups need to be the priority. Thoughts?

My project for this weekend's self-quarantine was to get everything hung on the wall.
Left-to-right: two cheap guitars (gonna learn to play them someday) , '78 Musicmaster, fretless Kala Ubass, open space for my violin bass kit (wife is currently painting it), MTD Kingston 5.

Fender 500c combo amp fits underneath.

Tomorrow is back to work.

I had a gig Friday, and the venue hasn’t cancelled it yet. I wrote the band today to tell them I wouldn’t do it. They were very understanding and hopefully the venue will be cool about rescheduling.

I hated to do it, but seems like the right thing to do. Watching countries a few steps ahead of us (eg Italy) it seems like this thing will only get worse, and cancelling events is the only barrier. At this rate, we’re headed towards national lockdown anyways

It’s the right thing to do. Here in Norway, we’ve already been on lockdown for several days, and many health professionals are of the opinion that it was done too late.

This thing is going to be very hard to stop, but it can be accelerated extremely easily if the warnings of health professionals are ignored.

Some People I know are taking it seriously in the states, but judging by what’s on FB, I think just as many are not. Stubborn, ignorant, IDK, But many are carrying on thinking “it’s just the flu.”

Im very much expecting and mentally preparing for lockdown here. Just curious, what are the rules for your lockdown? Can you go in your backyards? Walk around the block? I read in Italy you can go to work, store but be prepared for police inspection!

good luck to you in the days and weeks ahead brother!

Walking around in Italy is now subject to restrictions and, if asked, one has to be able to provide the required justification for which the authorities have issued a specific form to be filled and signed ..

Looks like weeks of working from home ahead for me, better make my home office / studio desk comfy. Wife is going to the store and stocking some items today, hopefully the hoarders have run out of space to stack their goods. Now there are also rumours of all schools being closed officially.

Also, I made plans today for cleaning the yard and the garage.

I'm a full-time work from home employee of the federal government, so nothing on the work front changes for me.

My daughter's spring break started today (3/16), but has been extended to 3/27 due to the Virginia governor closing schools until then.

My wife works for a pretty large regional grocery chain, so it's normal work for her, but she only works two days a week, so it's not that bad. But she is taking all the necessary precautions she can while there.

We are monitoring our health very closely, but haven't gone into panic mode--no panic buying or hoarding of sh!tpaper or anything like that.

Sh!t's getting kinda crazy.

That’s what I’ve been reading. I can only think of the mental/physical benefit of taking a simple walk; but this an unprecedented event in recent history. Luckily we have a small yard for fresh air and grounding, but some apartment dwellers aren’t so lucky :(

The measures taken are the sternest in Norway has seen in peacetime:
  • Our borders are now effectively closed. Norwegian nationals and permanent residents can enter, but will have to go into quarantine immediately. Other travelers will be returned immediately, or quarantined.
  • All schools, universities and kindergartens are closed.
  • All cultural and sporting events are canceled.
  • All bars and clubs are closed, restaurants that serve food which are able to maintain 1m between patrons can stay open, but with restrictions.
  • All gyms and sporting arenas are closed.
  • All hair salons, beauticians, spas, piercing studios and tattoo parlors are closed.
  • All swimming pools are closed.
  • All physiotherapists, chiropractors, opticians and other non-essential health related businesses are closed.
  • Use of public transport is discouraged.
  • Working from home is encouraged for those who can do so. People are strongly advised against going out unless absolutely necessary.
  • People who have been in contact with confirmed Covid-19 cases are quarantined for 14 days. Breaking the quarantine is punishable by fines or jail sentences up to 6 months.
  • Travel that isn't absolutely necessary, both foreign and domestic, is strongly discouraged. It's illegal to be staying in second homes in other counties than the one in which you currently reside.
There are other restrictions, but these are the most important ones. On the plus side the government has announced an aid package both for employees and businesses, to offset the economic problems that will inevitably ensue. Businesses are encouraged not to lay employees off, but suspend them instead.
  • Suspended employees will receive a minimum of 20 days full pay from the day of their suspension, with the government covering day 3 through 20.
  • After this, suspended employees will receive benefits of minimum 80% of their salary (up to a certain level)
  • The government will cover sick pay from day 3 of the illness.
  • Freelancers and the self-employed will be guaranteed compensation amounting to 80% of their average income over the last three years.
  • Businesses will be granted extension on taxes, and VAT will be reduced, and businesses that have been directly affected by the pandemic, such as the travel business and airlines, will receive special government aid as well.
  • Inmates who are near the end of their jail terms and who are deemed not to represent a threat to society at large will be released to decrease infection risk among prison populations.
These are some of the immediate measures, further ones will come, I'm sure. For now, the situation is serious, but not as dramatic as one might expect. People are calm and cooperative, helping each other out when possible and getting on with their lives as best they can. By standing together, we hope to minimize the effects of this pandemic.

Good luck and good health to you and yours also in this difficult time.
