Seriously! How do you guys manage having sooo many basses?!

I only have n but I need n+1. It gnaws at me.
I currently do not have a birth year bass of any brand. I do not currently own a Ric, a Dan Armstrong, a Thunderbird, a fretless Ray, a Burns Bison, and countless others. Or even a Wal, why, oh why, what a world.
Funny thing is my wife really doesn't mind if I buy a bass. But I try to not have more than a handful out in the house, only hang 2 on the wall at any time and those are the ones I'll play mostly, tricking myself into thinking I only have 2 (Cases lined up in the closet and under the bed). I have a Mod P paid, on order and a custom that's probably still 6 months out(?). And I am really looking very hard at an Elite P from the '80's because it looks cool and a pretty good condition L2000 that's orange and I don't even have any orange basses and that's my favorite color. This thread is hard.
Basses are like shoes, you really should have more than you do have.

I've traded a few away over the years but can't think of one I'd want to part with now. They all bring me joy when I play one I haven't in a while.
Obviously they're still a few to choose from I need to round out the collection.

Life is short and we all are different. I currently own 9 basses and I have a custom Dingwall on order. Each one has a special place in my heart (especially the one my daughter built for me). I don't begrudge a player who just has one or somebody who has over a hundred. It's all good.

I fall into the crowd of having different basses for different purposes. If I feel a bass will add something unique I'll buy it. If it's redundant I either won't buy it or Ill plan to sell the one it'll be replacing in that specific roll. I got to a point in my late 20s where I felt I had too many. But to be fair looking back they were all very similar basses (modern active 5 strings with rounds) It was like I was trying to fill the same roll with all of them. And yeah I don't get that, like when people have a dozen p basses or jazz basses for example. What happened with me in that type of situation was one Bass got pretty much all the playing time while the others essentially became closet queens which I only brought out to do things like experiment with drastically different tunings like high C 5 string or low f#. But I have a different thing going on now. All my basses have their own unique roll. My acoustic is my go to for acoustic style gigs, my Dingwall is my go to for my rock band. My fender jazz serves as a good reliable and affordable backup for either situation. So basically I'm not really looking for more of what I already have. I'm mainly looking at like fretless basses or a p basses to put flats on for example to have even more variety. If I bought let's say a Strandberg prog5 bass tomorrow id put my Dingwall up for sale, if I bought a warwick alien acoustic I'd sell my fender acoustic.
on a different note. Once trick I've learned over the years. If you want people people in the bar to think you got a new bass, don't buy a new bass, just change the pickgaurd lol.

So, with around a dozen, I still have a long way to go. I doubt I will buy more. Although, I am sure I will build some but only from scratch.
It all comes down to "I always wanted one of those..."
There are 4 basses in our house. I have 3. My wife has one that she let's me play, so technically it's not mine and doesn't count. I gifted her one of mine, so again, technically, I only have 2, but she also let's me play that one.
The most I've ever had at once is 10. It actually made me a bit anxious owning that many basses. At some point I realized that owning more basses was making me less happy, so I downsized to where I was comfortable. Everyone's level of comfort is different.

I have so many different instruments because they all have different tones, sounds, feels and bring out different playing personalities. I play a lot of styles of music and these different instruments help me to be appropriate.
