Minor update:
The DiMarzio pup is slightly larger than the route the stock neck pup sits in, so my shop is going to be routing it out sometime Tuesday. The tech said that it won't take much to get it fit properly, and the woodwork is going to be handled by a local luthier that does part-time work with the shop. Hopefully I'll be getting her back by Wednesday, or tomorrow if I'm lucky!

I sold this guy, and was able to buy it back today.

I'm on the hunt for a cherry satin special. That way I'll have the whole set.Then I can have one with tapes,one with flats and one with hi beams.

Well fellow SG addicts, as I noted earlier in the thread I'm enjoying my 2007 Lava Burst SG Supreme so much that I decided to look for another Supreme as a backup. I found a reasonable deal on a highly figured blonde beauty and she just arrived at my house a couple of days ago. She and the Lava Burst are getting along quite well...

The previous owner had some real set up issues on it that I'm correcting (bridge saddles were all flipped to wrong positions, string not wound correctly on the A tuner, pickup height and pole screws all in goofy positions, no break angle on the bridge, Chrome XL string wraps on the bridge saddles, and worst of all the nut is installed backwards). Its almost like someone's kid brother sabotaged the bass when no one was looking. All easy fixes except the nut which will have to be replaced by a luthier. Good news is the neck is good and straight, the truss adjusts beautifully, the body is pristine and all hardware and electronics work great. I've got her down to a nice low action and I'm sure it will be able to go lower once the nut is corrected. Here's a shot of how NOT to install a nut on a Gibson SG Supreme...

My Hi Beams came in the mail today.So I yanked the Labella's off the Fireburst and put them on.Nice contrast to D'Addario nylon tapes I got on the Chocolate. Once upon a time I despised steel strings but the Hi beams just do it for me. Had to adjust my action a little with the flats coming off. Slightly higher than I had it with the flats but not by much. I can tell I haven't played rounds in a while. Flats let you sneak by with a lot technique wise. Steels leave nothing to hide. Guess I gotta tighten up lol.

I have a 1968 EB-0 That I truly love. I will get a pic up so I can get a number...

I've owned several of these (EB-0 & EB-3) over the years, the first one I ever had was when I lived in OK. City in the early 80's; I believe it was a 67' EB-0. I was just starting to mod basses and this particular bass suffered through my learning period. The serial number was somewhat unique as it was basically a bunch of zeros and a two (000200? this may be wrong, but it was something close to that). Honestly, I basically destroyed that bass, but I truly loved it. I put three mudbuckers in it (all Gibson; everyone was pulling them out and installing Dimarzio model one pickups, they were everywhere). I took a MXR micro amp pedal apart and installed the guts in the bass along with several switches, I also scalloped the fretboard; don't ask me why, I just wanted to learn how to do it. At one point, I even drilled out the peghead and made it a six string. With a tremolo! I remember gigging with it like that. I eventually converted it back to a four sting and at some point sold it or traded it off. I have pictures somewhere...

The reason I have brought this up is I have wondered over the years about what ever happen to this bass. No matter what someone did to restore it, I doubt they went to the trouble to replace the fretboard, so if someone has seen an f'up EB something with a scalloped fretboard, I'd love to hear what happened to it.

LOL - good news is it was all easily corrected (except the nut) when I did a full set up on the bass.
I'm rockin the bass big time as is and its a real solid player. With all the compounding set up issues on the bass I'd imagine the seller was beside himself on how to get the action down to a reasonable level. It took me about an hour of tweaking this and that and moving parts and pieces to where they belonged but it plays like a dream now. The only issue left is the backwards nut which causes the G string to buzz at the first fret when played open, fretting anywhere else on the G string is fine so for now I just use the 5th fret on the D string instead of an open G. When I get around to replacing the nut I'm sure I'll be able to drop the already low action to incredibly low levels. That and some light gauge La Bella white or gold tapes and this little beast will play like buttah!

I swung by one of my local shops, and they have a 2006 SG Faded for sale, but it's in an off-white color. It's almost like a creamy yellow. I would have grabbed that one instead of my cherry 2013 if it was available, just based on the color alone! Anyone else have one in that color, or know the offical name for it?

EDIT: Oh, and I'm still waiting on my SG to come back from the luthier

I was just checking online, and it may actually be Canary Yellow. Pics I've found look very close to it. Did all SG's in 2006 have dot inlays?

DIY SG bass: body contour taken from the Epi EB-3 but larger cutaways made of Alder. Neck: NOS made for Framus J-375, Guitar humbuckers. A real beast: You cane tune a .108" GHS Brite Flat E down to C and it still sounds not a bit slabby.

SG-EB rules as follows:

1) It's about the body style! Gibsons, Epiphones, tribute, and customs are all ok. Must be the SG type body.

What about the Gibson Les Paul Junior DC? Technically a modern SG bass, its own form, but a tiny little bit inspired from the very first EB-0s?

Anyway, some pictures of my basses.

A heavily modded Epi 1960s tribute short scale EB-3 (modified sidewinder, better bridge PU in "sweet spot", active electronics):

There's a 2nd Epi EB-3 in Cherry only slightly modified (sidewinder). Unfortunately i do not have any picture of it. I recently gave it to one of my sons.

So, I went back to my local shop to check out the Off-white SG Bass, and I think it's a re-fin. The paint at the side of the headstock goes over the black piece that covers the headstock front, and the paint on the side of the neck definitely goes over the fretboard transition. It makes the fretboard look thinner than it actually is. The paint also completely covers the bridge studs, and the overall finish quality is so-so (lots of bumpiness to the finish in certain places). I didn't plug it in, so no idea if there's any issues with the electronics.

I have to admit that I've never been a fan of the SG body shape. But, I've been looking for a higher end bass, and this one dropped in my lap via a trade. I waffled a bit, but finally decided to do it.

I've got to say that I'm coming around to it. The nut width is wider than the Jaguar SS I'm used to playing (1.65" vs. 1.50"), so that's been harder to get used to than I thought (I've only been playing for a couple of years). But when it boils down to it, I think I like it.

It's a 2005 Gibson SG Standard.

I put Chromes on it (ECB81S), and am really looking forward to my first gig this weekend on it.

Please, sir...may I have a number?

Nice SG! I was kind of in the same boat as you. I wasn't blown over by the look of the SG initially, but it's grown on me over the years until I finally took the plunge. I had more of an issue with the smaller SG body. It always felt a little funny when I would play one at my local shop, but it's much better now that I've been playing it. Congrats!
