More gratuitous photos and thread bump. 70ish EB-3L with new Hipshot supertone and fresh setup. It rocks!
So, is the neck dive on the Epi EB-3 as bad as everyone says? I want one, and they seem to go used for cheap enough, but I already have one neck divey bass that I can't play effectively, and I'd hate to add a second one to my collection.
Best thing i would say is go to a store if you can and try with some of the straps available or one of your favorites from home.
I own an SG and a Thunderbird, 2 basses accused of being divey, neither one gives me any issues
No! The so called neck dive only exist if you literly make it dive. I don't get why people even mention it
My SG finally made it back to me last evening after it's time at the luthier. I must say, the Model 1 pup swap was a good decision. Solo'd, it has a more even volume across all the strings, and it still blends nicely with the bridge pup, and maybe even overpowers it when both volumes are dimed. I also like the look a little better, with the double row of pole pieces and the black finish.
Just so the point doesn't get missed, I should've specified the 34" Epi EB-3, not the short scales.
I briefly had the Epi EB-0, there was no dive there. I've never tried the EB-3 version, though, and it's easy to see how it could dive. Interesting that two people now say it's got none.
Yeah I was a little iffy about the short scale at first, but now it's all I play and recommend it to anyone. My SG just sounds so good that it's hard right use my fenders. At this point.
Can you tell me a little more info on he pup? I have the same bass, and although I like the tone and have no issues, I would possibly like to clean up the sound a tad
Sure. The DiMarzio has more bottom, and just sounds more even across all the strings. The stock pup sounded a little hollow on the E-string, and the new pup doesn't. It also has more overall clarity in its tone than the stock pup did. The other DiMarzio neck pup option (the Will Power) is supposed to have even more output than the Model 1, while retaining the other qualities of the Model 1. FWIW, the Model 1 has more than enough output for me, so the Will Power model may be too much. Hope this helps!
EDIT: Also, the DiMarzio wasn't a drop-in replacement, and the pup route needed to be widened just a bit to make it fit. I Can still see just a trace of the old metal pup cover footprint, so if you decide to swap it back to stock, you can do so without issue.
What is the price on these pups? I always had fender so I dealt with custom
Shop and Seymour Duncan. Not to familiar with dimarzio or other brands
I bought mine for $90, and the Will Power is $100, I believe. The Will Power also has the series/parallel option, same as the Model 1.
I know it's only aesthetic, but I wish there was a black replacement cover for the bridge pup. I like how it sounds, but I'm not big on bling, per se
I traded a parts P bass for this 2011 SG Standard (2011). Sold it on fleabay to thin the heard and had the buyer complain the neck was bowed and the truss rod broken. Refunded him and just got the SG back. Nothing wrong with it. Plays just as smooth as when I mailed it. Gotta love dealing with eBay....
Unpacked it and took it to my Tuesday night Blues Jam and wow, glad I got it back. Very comfortable to play, I never gave it enough time to warm up completely to it in the past. I think I need to Get back in the groove with the SG.

Hey all. I just changed strings (d'addario rounds) and thought while I was at it I would see if I could get the wound section of the string off the saddles. Because I'm cheap I scrounged in my tool bench and came up with some SS nylon lock nuts that seem to fit perfectly. Beats buying a mod bar (for me anyway). Instant gratification.
