Should I Lend out my Rig?

Wow, what a drag.

I just love stories about these hot-shot musicians, how great they are, how we should all just bow down to them, and these losers can't even figure a way to get their own gear to a gig. Sheesh, I have teenage students who are more organized, resourceful, and professional.

And you need to put your bandmates in their place. No one has the right to force or coerce anyone into sharing their personal gear if they're not comfortable doing so. Your bandmates (guitard) are jerks.

Our drummer said he understood if I said no.

Funny you say he already promised my rig. When I told him they could just rent he said they couldn't do that... I see no reason they couldn't unless he did what you said.

He being my guitarist, FYI.

Tel him that you're amazing and deserve three grand and two coeds. Up the price a little if they don't come through by tonight though.

Your guitard has no right dealing out your equipment to other people, and certainly no right getting upset if you choose not to.

The other bass player should understand, as long as he isn't a complete ****. If he is, then it's probably a good thing you didn't lend him the gear. :D

Personally, I'd be upset that he feels that you owe his friends anything.

Stop waffling and stringing them along. Grow a pair and just say no, so it's final. The Mooch will be patient and wait for you to say yes, because they have nothing to lose.

I told him it's far from likely and to plan ahead on renting. I also made him aware that none of my friends would ever pull this kind of stuff and that I'd never pull it on anyone either. I think he's getting the picture that I'm not a pushover already.

I'm going to remember the "I'm annoyed that you even asked!" line. That could turn the moocher abruptly away. Truly, you have no reason to find excuses or feel fault with yourself. Few of us come by our gear easy, and NO ONE respects your gear more than yourself. Had a guy ask to play my Ric at a local jam.....cause he had broken a string on his bass. Yea, like I'm going to watch him thrash my Ric all over the place! But even if his request was for his grandma to stroke it with a felt pic, the answer is NO! Bud

To heck with those guys! Their first plan should have been to call down where the venue is to try to secure rentable gear, then seen if they could get friends to lend out.

Their inability to prepare is only their fault, and in my experience it only takes one firm "no" to tell a moocher where he can go off to and they don't bug you again.

If you really wanted to "F" with them you could say "Okay okay! I will lend you my amp." Then show up with a 15 watt practice amp. If asked about your other amp say that you lent it to your sister. ;-)

On a previous post one with a similar situation, a poster said that he would SELL a DI box to the band. Then not worry about getting it back.

You could always sell your amp to the guitar player for full retail. Then if the amp is okay you can buy it back from him. If the amp comes back damaged refuse to give back the money and go buy a nicer amp with your earnings! ;-)

REMEMBER: Never let another person's problem become your problem.

Another NO vote. Friends wouldnt put friendship in jeopardy like that. Nobody cares for your stuff like you. Good thing the "bassist" isnt an airline pilot..imagine the request being made at that level.

Nice guy with busted gear?:crying: Or a few ticked off friends and gear all safe and sound on Monday morning?:bassist: You're call!
