Thanx for the well wishes everyone. In the spirit of keeping this thread on topic you can PM them to me. My fault, I shouldnt have posted so much in this thread on that subject. Just wanted to explain my absence.

judging someones musicianship by something that is not related to music IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM
is just ridiculous.

Who's judging musicianship?? Im not. Im just saying that I find it strange that some people join a bass guitar site but then spend most of their time talking off topic.
DEFELDUS-I would love to continue the pissing match that is starting. But Its not what the thread is about.

hmm, take a look at this thread and see who would be some problem makers: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showt...688&perpage=30&highlight=leaving&pagenumber=2
(note: i have no problem with threads like this, i just want to point out that some of you who seem to be targeting us "off topic kids" are overlooking mods and supporting members who do the EXACT same stuff you complain about us doing)

As such, since the difficulties seem to only concern such a small group, I would advocate no changes, and when the enhancements Paul has indicated are on the way are in place, there really should not be any further issues that affect the general TB membership. Or those that rely on search algorithms.
One vote for tolerance and reason.

remember, everytime someone views this thread the "thread views" number increments. 69 people could very well have viewed the thread repeatedly to get the thread views up to 946.

I voted early, but not often.
One thing kind of grabs me here, so I'll lay it out and see if other people are struck it as well.
The votes are fairly even from the respondees. What really strikes me is that 7% of the people who viewed this thread voted. [69 of 946 so far.]Whether they were members that had no opinion, or guests who who wouldn't register is difficult to tell of course. When I open the board, however, I have noticed that members/guest ratio has run 3/1 or 4/1 fairly consistently the time slots I am here. As a result, I feel that most members do not really feel strongly enough about it to vote on it.
I am drawn to the conclusion that the difficulties are really confined to a fairly small group that are annoyed by OT, and its very existence; and a small equally vocal group, that spends time here, but lurks elsewhere in the forums.
As such, since the difficulties seem to only concern such a small group, I would advocate no changes, and when the enhancements Paul has indicated are on the way are in place, there really should not be any further issues that affect the general TB membership. once again i had absolutely no problem with him or the thread, and i never said it there was anything wrong with it.i also have no doubts of his respect and friendships he has here, and i think it is relevant for him to share that he is moving. i have no problem with any of that. i was simply referring to the part that goes like this:
im just pointing out that its just a natural thing for people on message boards to do this. i feel like if some get fussed at for it, then all should. either the rules should apply to everyone or they need to be changed. i have no problem with the rules and am not complaining about them at all, im simply trying to point out how silly the "whining" about it is.
I agree, but we should keep in mind that most young people come here to learn, and sometimes don't have enough experience to share. Maybe they don't ask questions because they use the search function!Originally posted by john turner
i'll sum it up in one simple comment. a few of the younger members here who are unhappy with the way they are being treated have contacted me privately and asked me what i felt they could do to avoid that kind of treatment in the future. it's simple - contribute bass playing experience, bass related questions, and generally music related conversations - even if all you do is ask questions, and stop with the juvenile OT crap. if a 15 year old member got on the site and all he/she did was ask music related questions and bass related questions and start music or bass related discussions, they'd be much more respected than the self-aggrandizing wiseasses who like to come to off topic and do their best beavis and butthead imitation.
