Should we separate forums into sub-forums?

In the most non-pollitical way possible, it is John Howard, the Prime Minister of Australia. I am not making a pollitical statement however..I just think its an amusing picture of a head of state! :)

Well he is a professional Politician... kinda unfair I couldn't post an amusing GWB picture as mine :hmm:

Perhaps....I guess you can always report me to a moderator ;)

Besides...this is kind of tangental to the thread at hand. The only discussion ever started about my avatar has been this one, so I have never perceived it as being a problem!

I surf and will continue to surf via "search.php?do=getnew"

I refuse to conceed to your segregations!!! We are one people and one player!
+1

90% of the time I use the View New link. If I have time I go to the strings and setup forums and see what messages I missed. One time I posted a reply in the Luthiers forum by mistake

I was just contemplating this question last night. I am presently playing EUB 95% of the time, and I would check an EUB forum first everytime I come to TB, most likely. Neither the BG forum nor the DB forum is very satisfying to me at present, as far as EUB-unique topics.

I think this is one of the big plus points - EUBs are not BGs and are not DBs - so where do you post about them?

I have seen the occasional thread in BG Basses - but these get lost in the huge volume of that forum and they drop off the main page very quickly - before the EUB players have seen and had a chance to reply.

If threads are posted in DB - you get a lot of replies about how you would be better off buyng a "real bass" and generally, anybody who does that, feels that they have made an embrassing "faux pas" and never post again!

So what happens is that people see my avatar and PM me with questions - rather than getting the benefit of the experience of al those who play EUBs to help them - they get my pitifully limited experience!!

It makes far more sense to have those questions "out in the open" in a forum for that purpose - instead of people feeling that there is no proper place to ask about EUBs!!

I'd see having sub-forums as necessary if the rate of posts in an existing forum gets too high, and finding information within that forum becomes too difficult.

If TB had 5 users, each posting once a day for example, it'd be fine with one big forum for everything, anyone could leap into the forum and find what they were after.

At the other end of the spectrum, if the effects forums suddenly started receiving 200 posts per hour solely about compressors, it would make sense to create a new 'Compressors' forum, otherwise that'd be all that anyone ever saw in the effects forum.

If posts about EUBs are getting lost in the traffic of the BG or DB forums, I don't see any good reason not to have a dedicated EUB forum.

If posts aren't being made because of rude or intimidating members, then they should be dealt with individually, rather than having to create forums to work around them.

eubs i can understand, erbs, no. theres still an electric bass guitar. if we're gonna seperate things by number of strings we will have to draw the line somewhere and thats just gonna lead to a lot of bad/stupid decision and arguments. erbs are fine just staying where they are.

I tend to agree - EUBs are clearly different instruments with a set of problems/advantages all their own - it would just be nice to have a place you could go and find all the questions/comments about them together - instead of having to search through thousands of posts in BG Basses to find the odd one or two....

In recent months I have noticed quiet a few threads about EUBs, scattered across different forums, but basicaly asking the same things - I have also recieved several PMs about EUBs and it would just be much better if I could just say - go here!!

I know there is a lot of expertise about EUBs around here, as I have had a lot of help myself - but it is "hit and miss" whether you get a reply and the benefit of that experience because nobody knows where to look or post!

So - even if you search - there are lots of different terms - like "stick bass", Electric Upright, EUB, Baby Bass, Electric Double Bass, NS Bass, Bassix, Eminence - each of these have been referred to in thread titles and are about EUBs - but there is no way to group them all together!! :hmm:

I think this reply is what I would want to put as well and I think it clearly makes the Poll INVALID !!

So - I think the debate/discussion is useful - but I don't think the poll means anything, as it is doesn't have the necessary options.

So there may be many people who feel like Defeldus and myself, that EUBs deserve a subdivision but not ERBs - we cannot put a valid vote in the poll therefore!! :rollno:

I also agree with Bruce and Defeldus. EUB Yes...ERB No.
