Show me your '51 Style P Basses

Didn't we just do this last week? Not that I mind chances to show off my basses :)

James, I never tire of looking at your vintage inspired basses.

Here's mine:

51 MIJ reissue neck, Mike Dirntz body, drilled for string thru w/Badass III, Seymour Duncan SPB-3 p/u & custom made, ugly-ass tortoise pickguard.

Though I could never ever see myself just having one bass... If I had to, this would be my desert island bass. I won't play it for awhile, but when I pick it up... Wow! It's the sound in my head, not to mention that perfect feeling neck! My Favorite.

Moonshine :bassist:

Moonshine: did you have to do any modifications to fit the MIJ reissue neck into the Dirnt neckpocket? Just for the cool looks, I wanted to swap out the necks one mine, however the CIJ reissue neck had different neckbolts from the MIM one's... So obviously I didn't want to mess up the basses as they are (and they are superb basses) so I chickened out. Figured the looks aren't worth messing them up!

Hopefully you won't mind me posting a"work in progress"...it's a collaboration between me and Marksound Guitars. Color coats are on, now it needs clear coats and curing.

It'll have a maple neck, black matte single ply guard, covers, Fralin hum canceling pickup, hipshot lollipops, etc, etc.

It'll be a beauty....at least *I* think so....

coolio! if it were me, i'd be putting a clear guard on that baby.

i agrre, but i just generally go by how they did the originals.

Yeah. I love the originals, but I figure I'm already straying a bit ...color (obviously), roundover, etc. The Lollipops are on "some" rare Tele Basses, but kinda unusual...but I still love em, so I'm stretching things a bit :) I kinda want this to be an updated classic. I might go with the large knurl flat top knobs just 'cause I like the feel of them, instead of the small knurl....but overall the bass will be very "old school" in general.

You don't happen to have an old paisley in your collection, do you ?

Mmm mmm mm.. That's gonna be a hottie!

It's funny this thread just popped up! I just acquired a '55-'56 contoured style Warmoth build through another local bassist. Amber tinted flame neck and board, Antiquity pickup and cover, Hipshot ultralights, string thru 4 saddle bridge and a REALLY light one-piece swamp ash body finished just barely in paste wax. This thing barks! I'll try to get some pics up soon.....
