Here's a couple - 1990/91 MIJ Precisions. The older ones have the larger size string ferrules and no rout under the pickguard. Both are quite lightweight

These were more authentic w/the larger ferrules but the not so authentic mustard was similar to the '06 RI - surprising they didn't include the covers and tug-bar but it looks like they did drill the single screw-hole for one.

The color on this one is 1956 Packard Trim Green, and I had it mixed up at Smitties in Hemet, CA.

The next one is in 1962 Cadillac/Buick Bahama Blue and I've used 1966 Peugeot Blue and 1969 Saab Sonnet Blue.

All are painted with two part catalysed urethane.

Since Leo used automotive lacquers and enamels on his Fenders, so I try to use the same products --- only more modern.

Aircraft paints are also very good as I've used Cessna and Mooney colors too.

Just love how time has darkened the butterscotch in the original and I wanted to approximate it.

thanks for all the info - good call on that trim green, I may contact Smitties about getting some mixed up myself! I recall talking to Phil Kubicki on the phone years ago about his salmon color and hr said it was a late 50's Packard color. Is the pg 2-ply Parchment? (blk/par)

Please forgive the bad photo, but I just picked this up from my pick guard maker, its Italian acetate tort, sort of like Prince's (RIP) guitar, except I painted the back gold otherwise the black of body would come through and just look black. Let me know what you guys think.

Hopefully you won't mind me posting a"work in progress"...it's a collaboration between me and Marksound Guitars. Color coats are on, now it needs clear coats and curing.

It'll have a maple neck, black matte single ply guard, covers, Fralin hum canceling pickup, hipshot lollipops, etc, etc.

It'll be a beauty....at least *I* think so....

Was that a screen print or transfer of some sort? I am curious because i may want to put some of my own designs on a bass at some point. Thanks in advance...

Gads.... I'm sorry for not seeing your question before this..... and this may be a zombie post by now.....but.....

No, the apparent parchment color is really white.

Update: I'm building a Telecaster Guitar.... a 6 string guitar, (gasp!) ... with a black walnut neck and possibly the fingerboard too, with a grain-matched black walnut front on the body and 1" wide laminated antique cedar body, hollowed out for weight control.

I'll see if I can post a pix or two of the build so far... but it's still cold In Montana and lacquer doesn't like cold application. My shop is heated by a wood furnace I built a couple of years ago, but it just heats up the moisture in the air when i spray and makes it blush.

This Telecaster Guitar is just an experiment for me...... I'd rather be building basses, but I have an overstock of personal basses on my wall right now, so a little diversity is fun.

Not sure I won't cover the back and sides with black lacquer or not as of yet. I dunnow... since at this stage it looks out of place on a Telecaster I think.

Thoughts? I'll take a poll if I can maybe later on this week when I don't have to write this on my tablet.

Few weeks back I got this £90 Harley Benton PB-50 to reshape 50's style

This was the 4th one I've bought. Great necks,really great necks Adequate bridge/tuners etc. The original models shipped with a Wilkinson single coil, a very good pickup same range as the Duncan single but with more output. Sadly the factory building the PB kept getting suppiled with fake Wilkinsons so switched to a bigger pole piece Roswell single. Still a good pickup but the look was wrong.

Did the headstock reshape, fitted a 2 saddle bridge, drilled for through body stringing. Swapped the Roswell for a handwound single from the UK's pickup maker Martin Herrick and strung with La bella black tapes. Had a couple of rosewood tug bars so swapped out the plastic one.

About an hour or so later I ended up with this

One regret was I cut into the Harley Benton logo when reshaping, a replacement will be made. This fella is proud of his Harley Bentons
