Show me your compact pedalboard setup

Both of my main gigs have some time off this time of year; and as the saying goes, “when the mice are away, the cat will play;” or something like that.

So…here is my current “bag of tricks:”

Inside are all necessary mics, cables etc and not one, but two compact pedal boards on PT Nano boards, driven by CIOKS supplies..

Board one is mainly for my FSO basses, which include onboard Sadowsky preamps. I probably do 85% of my gigs with these basses.

A key element on this board is the BDDI V1. I happened to use one of those on a plugless board last season with unexpected benefits in two respects. First, the Sound Engineers wholly smile with major thumbs up at the BDDI feed. Second, the SVT-ish analog sim compliments the Fender tones in a big way.

An amusing side note is that I purchased several more of these 35 year old pedals in supposedly working condition; all of which were sent to the fine people at Tech21 for various capacitor replacements. The sellers literally thought the pedals were operating in a correct way. Fortunately, Tech21 service is timely, not expensive, and delivered with a smile. Nice and highly competent folks; kind of remind me of Alembic, attitude-wise.

The More into the BDDI is peas n carrots. Not just carrots.

Board Two is my universal board, delivering incredible clean tones for any and all of my basses.

The box on the right is my Alembic Series switch box, for those gigs where I take that unique instrument. The stomp switch activates the +15VDC and -15VDC isolated feeds from the CIOKS DC7 to the 5 pin Alembic connector. There is a parallel 1/4” jack on the side of the box for the rest of my instruments, which don’t need that power feed.

The outboard Sadowsky preamp acts as a tone shaper for my Fender passive instruments and also as a line leveler for basses which have very hot signals.

The Venus Z preamp is quite simply my fav board preamp I’ve found so far, delivering tube character with a 4 band tone shaping circuit. The Sound Engineers gave this one a big thumbs up as well last year.

Bass of Choice, Bag of Tricks, QSC K.2 monitor, stand duffel; bring on the gigs!
This is apparently a work in motion for me. First, I decided I preferred the tandem of the SB More + BDDI V1, and converted to that pair. Thought I was done.

Nope. Made the mistake of trying an additional experiment. I had a Shift Line Olympic MkIIIs laying around, had an extra board; and, well, you know how it goes.

The only issue with the SLO compared to the More + BDDI was that it lacked the mild compression built into the BDDI.

So, “new” board for this year:

I hope I’m done now. Famous last words.

Nice!

How are you liking the CompIQ?

The MKIII's are no joke. A really fantastic sounding pre. Surprised we don't see more boards with them around here.

Got a jam tonight with a trio playing Grateful Dead tunes. ABS has been a great three-in-one solution for these types of small boards. Also, the Fatbee is so good as an always-on low gain drive. Sounds great with the limiter and amp sim on.

I recently signed on with a GD cover band as well. Been bringing my one-good-sound board pictured earlier in this thread, but this week I've decided to add a few new effects:

Octaver (Octabvre) - Fire On The Mountain
Env. Filter (Proton) - Shakedown Street, Feel Like A Stranger
Chorus (Polytope) - Eyes of the World
Delay (El Capistan) - Space

I'll post a pic at rehearsal tomorrow. We'll see how it goes. Good luck with the Dead jam!

Sounds like you could use a Osiris Philter. Im expecting one tomorrow. I still can’t play for a while, but I’m really looking forward to fooling with the thing once i can walk again.

Nice, those choices sound great! Yep, I went with the phaser for Shakedown and will use the octave for whatever else comes up. This rehearsal (Shakedown, China Cat -> Rider) is to see if we mesh so that we can finalize the lineup before a gig in June. I think the board will be larger for the show!

I've considered getting one - I will say, the Lesh period that I typically go for is that 68-70 sound. Short scale and overdriven Fender amps (Super Stack is great for this). Seems like the Osiris unit is built around his early 70's sound - not to say won't get one, haha.

(Wishing you a speedy recovery, 'Rilla)

Thanks, Jake. I’m black and blue, which is supposed to be good - they want that- PT therapist said I’m ahead of the recovery plan, and it looks as if the surgery went really well. I was hoping for a cool scar, but the surgeon was so adept that all i have is a barely visible line. I’m extremely irritable from the stupid oxy, - thus far, I’ve only had to eat seven of them over six days. I hope to plug in again mid-May. Using the time to plan three boards and hopefully inventory my gear. I’m hoping to move 40 pieces of stuff, hope to benefit our little community here in the process. I’m grateful to be where i am and would like to share my good fortune if possible once i get on my feet again.

Glad to hear the surgery went well and you're off to a good start on the recovery. If the scar is a little underwhelming, maybe you can pick at it a bunch and try to make it more gnarly.
