Behold the beauty! My MB-2 in Koa with black hardware, matching headstock and binding. I'd love to order a matching mouse, but custom isn't in the works for Rob or my budget.

Does anyone use some kind of a mute to kill some of the sustain?
I put a little piece of foam rubber under the strings in front of the bridge. It woks great and makes it sound even more upright like but it's very ugly.

still not sure how foam makes it sound better. But it looks fun.
Seriously, seen it done but I've never tried that... now where's all that foam I saved "just in case."
THink about it - older electric basses had the foam mutes, so it's a similar thing. IMO the way Rob chambered out my D4 really gives it a better tone than my older one. I've found as you probably have subtle tweaks to the chain (strings and amp mainly) make a huge difference. Mine is still a joy to play.
That said, I have a touch of GAS - the Gillett SlimlineContour ST (mag + piezo like mine). Invalid Link Removed

In the mean time I am running my Mouse thru a Rumble 100. Anyone else out there running a rumble.
Went by GC and ran it thru a QSC K-8 and it sounded great - but 600 for that little thing and then I need a preamp.
I have seen a SWR Blonde in a pic of Rob's shop - but they are getting harder to find also.
Any help would be appreciated.

RAs can be a bit tricky to amplify as they have a lot of lows and also have piezo "clack". I've had good luck with a variety of amps though, can come down to cabinet. fwiw I *don't* like tweeters, either with a RA or regular bass. Hathors sound great, and actually Barefaced Two10 sounds surprisingly good. The roll-off on the high end helps with any piezo scratchiness.

I'd agree with this statement. FInding the right amp is surprisingly difficult. So far, the Henriksen Bud is the best I've found with my setup. Mine is complicated further by having two discrete outs for the mag and piezo, so I need something with two inputs and a way to balance them both so the output is the same in terms of volume when I switch.
I think there are a couple of issues at play, and various ways to work with it. One is the big bottom. For guys who are used to juicing the low end on their basses, or have a cab that is a bit hyped in the lows or low mids, a RA can be overwhelming. Most people are not used to dialing the bass *down* on their amp, but I find that can be necessary with a RA depending on the rest of the signal chain. Cabs with tweeters tend to have a bit of a hole in the upper mids, and a lot of treble capability, which is another thing that doesn't help with a RA since the piezo has a fair chunk of treble going on.
That said, really depends on what the player wants. I tend to favor a more mid-forward sound, so I often eq the RA a bit more towards the frowny face, though that is cab-dependent.
