I purchased the plans awhile back. I got the required hardware a few weeks back, and I have a local source for the recommended baltic birch plywood. I'll be starting a build soon, and I'm extremely curious to plug my Ampeg V-18 50W tube head into the Omni 10.5 and see what my fretless sounds like! I've got the Neo driver and I'm going with the "paint" finish so I suspect total weight of about 25 lbs. SWEET!

Interesting, too, in that you've made it the same width as a crossfire type, but with forward facing tweeters.

This suggests an idea to me. With all that width of panel available, you'd be in a position to put the tweeter horns horizontally to improve lateral dispersion. You could also add more of them, which would make 'em sound nicer, as each one will have less work to do.

Nice finish work on the cab.

The orientation of the tweeter pair makes no difference. These are 90x90 tweeters, so response would be unchanged. The vertical array widens the horizontal pattern and reduces the vertical pattern.

Horizontal layout does allow for more tweeters in the vertical stack. A single 10" doesn't handle much power anyway, so I think the pair will do just fine as they are.

Actually I thought about that, but my circumstances are as follows;

1. It's mainly used as a bass cab with my Plush tube head which is 24" wide. Makes for a perfect fit.
2. The (2) piezo tweeters wired in series are perfect for my bass. I don't have to do any switching.
3. The slightly wider cab gives a little more bottom.

When I get the 2nd one done, it will also be used as a vocal PA. For that application, if I need more tweeters, I plan on building separate melded array tweeter cabs to stack on top of the Omni 10.5's. This cab would be an easy build and the front baffle would be convex in shape.

If you are worried about the exposure of the driver, you can use heavy duty insect screen mesh - the ones they put on insect screen doors that is dog-paw proof. Just pop the driver baffle plate out and put it in between as per plans.

I'm still trying to decide between doing that or getting some perf. metal and making a full size grill.

That would be an error. Keep all the tweeters in one array.

It would, but then the array isn't on the same horizontal plane as the woofer, so integration close in isn't as good. You're better off using a switch in the cab to run a full array for PA and less for backline.

Crumbs! Just discovered this thread...sorry I'm late, but I don't get out much...

I initially built an OMNI15 as an introduction to BFM cabs:

I omitted the tweeter as it was intended solely for bass use and it's a decision I have not regretted. I intend to give it a cosmetic makeover soon as I didn't do a good job with the black trim. Easily sorted however.

Next up was a pair of OMNI10.5s:

The tweeter arrays are switchable and when using bass I would only have one array switched on, so I was able to build them on opposite sides which was aesthetically more pleasing IMO.

LOL! Sorry...those top photos were just a test-fitting they are all cosy and snug now.

Ignore that Crate thing it was just sitting there...the amp below is a vintage(ish) H|H V bassamp which I quite like using with the O15.

There's three features on these cabs which I am reallly pleased with and they are all commercially available and easily fitted to any cab.

The connectors themselves are neutrik speakon which also accept standard 1/4" jack sockets. Well worth tracking down IMO
