I really like that look!- did you spray the blue over a CAR finish and do the relic'ing?
It was a wild idea I had when I ordered the bass from Lakland. They said they had never done anything of the sort. It's a very thin coat of sonic blue over the CAR base -- but there's no clear coat at all on the bass! So all that aging has come from about 18 months of real play-wear in my hands. If I ever decide I want to freeze it in time, I can send it back to the factory for a clear coat. But I think I'm gonna just play it forever and que sera sera!
Thank you SJ,What a beauty!
Thank you SJ,
It’s a 68 body that got broken up and the rosewood neck went away, but I’ve always wanted a 58 and I’d had this gold guard hanging round for ages, so when a friend offered up a roadworn 50’s P neck it came together very nicely.
Thanks for your kind words! Now if I could only figure out a way to 'infect' people to purchase my custom basses!

Wow! That's a cool bass and my birth year... with that much wear I'm surprised the back of the neck isn't all worn down like other examples we've all seen, including your Pbass.
Maybe it was refinished when it was Plec'd. I does look pretty clean and glossy. Also, by '69 they appear to be shooting a gloss (poly) clear-coat before the 3TSB finish. Could be why paint is chipping off like that. And it appears the Fullerplast homogenizing layer is there also. Maybe it was an early "natural" experiment that was then needed as a 3TSB.
