I built them at the same time. The tops and head veneers all came from one largish piece of redwood and the fretboards were also from the one board. I've been calling them the twins since they were halfway built 
Do redwood bass bodies produce a characteristic tone like other woods are said to do? And being soft, any special care needed?I built them at the same time. I just bought a Yamaha RBX170EW (exotic wood) with highly polished mango top. Sounds and plays as nice as it looks.
Nice looking Yammy there, I like it! I'm a big PJ fan as you may have noticed
Yeah, the redwood is soft and picks up dings very easy. I have a couple small ones here and there in spite of being pretty darned careful. But there's not enough redwood on mine to pick up a tone IMO. It's only about 1/8" thick. Body/neck woods on these are all cherry for the gold hardware bass, and maple/bloodwood neck with lightweight mahogany body for the chrome hardware bass.

Not sure how much mango wood is in the yammy either. And Yamaha declines to state specific body wood type either except it's responsibly sourced agathis, mahogany, nato or alder.
Looks like mahogany. I can't see the seam between the body and the mango top.
Very high gloss, nice PJ sounds. Franklin 3" suede strap and light weight make it fun to play.
$110 used at GC. Yamaha does not dissapoint.

Twins? How about "Triplets"? ("Quadruplets", if you count the Jetta! 
) I give you a full house of Squier Standards…aka "The Three Amigos"!
And then, there are my "No-Guilt" Squier parts-basses…
And lastly, there's my misbegotten Fender-Japan Limited Edition "All-Black" Jazz bass…
Painful as it was, I had to let it go to keep my car running, so some time later, I assembled this "Bizarro Clone" Jazz bass…
