I don't think there's anything to be said for having basses for every week of the year when there are people living brutal lives all around us. I fully expect to be countered with the "free country" argument, so I'll just put it out front that freedom shouldn't be confuse with a lack of morals. And yes, I find it immoral. I think, and I'm sure few would disagree, that there is immorality in avarice and conspicuous consumption.

I don't think you've brought anything to this forum apart from a hell of a lot of jumping smileys. I'm sure that all your basses are beautiful, subtle works of craftsmanship, and that your taste in instruments is oh-so fine, but I am having trouble holding my tongue over this. I'm insulted by your unrelenting flaunting of your wealth, and although I know many here disagree, I think it's in extremely poor taste.

As a last-ditch attempt to keep politics from being dragged kicking and screaming into this thread, I'd like to say that I fully support your right to as many basses as you want, but I just don't think that it's right.

next time you want to spew your "dictatorship of the prolitariat" vitriol, you reread the usage agreement, especially rule one, that you agreed to when you joined up. if you still feel the need to insult your fellow members just because they own more than you, or they have different priorities than you, then i suggest you check out a forum where poo-slinging is endorsed. like tabcrawler.com, for instance.

...err... sorry for the continued derailment, but I gotta say:

A. I'm in agreement with fishman.
B. All that the flaunting of your basses does is make people sick and jealous. They post smileys only to mask their true feelings.
C. I think you guys with all those basses should give some away to guys like me, or even less fortunates - in order to clear your conscience.
D. I'm absolutely in love with the blackbass w the maple neck on the first page of this thread (midlesomething's? - forgot his name and can't scroll back to that page).
E. The obligatory pic to show that dammit, I belong in this thread.
F. Note the look of dumbfoundedness, and the eyes firmly glued to the side markers... it was my first gig with the thing... it's gotten only slightly better since then. :)

Its amazing how some people may get upset at others that are sharing their passions....some of us are older and have been around longer and over time you can collect more and save/make more money... but also you attack a individual without knowing them...SHAME...for instance i am a strong contributor to churches and charities...I have donated basses to local schools...also there have even been contributions to builders of basses of some of the TBers here...I have even offered to pay for half of a custom for a TBer in this forum for helping me in posting some pics.....most appreciate our collections but there will always be a few that are envious but let me assure you that we love our basses and we want to share our happiness with others...there is no intention of bragging or flaunting meant(at least on my part) so hopfully all will know we just want to share our passions...keep playing and be happy !!!!!:bassist: :hyper:

Just want to make note that I was kidding (sometimes my sarcasm goes unnoticed) - I'm on your side here, and can say ditto on your post. I too work hard, and interestingly enough have gotten back at least twofold the things I've given to charity, which includes giving a bass to a kid one time. I too work hard for my money and notice that a lot of the people who complain about what others have aren't willing to do what they need to do in order to get it. That's not aimed at you fishman, or anyone else for that matter - just something I've noticed.

The more money I earn, the more basses I will own. Basses bring me joy and inspiration, doesn't make me a bad person. Now those people who throw billion dollar parties on lifestyles of the rich and famous... ahem...

I may be wrong about this observation, as I don't religiously follow your posts, and if so, I apologize, but it seems to me that you're reaping some harsh reactions because your posts appear to promote the sheer quantity, rather than the quality, of your collection. I seldom, if ever, see you post a photo or comment on just one of your basses; it's usually a flood depicting multiple rooms filled with trophies. I think it's great that you're deriving so much enjoyment from those beautiful instruments, but I can see how these posts might be considered vulgar or banal by some TB'ers.

Personally, I'd be much more interested in viewing some nice, clear photos of one bass at a time, with an occasional family shot thrown in for perspective's sake.
