Firstly, although I obviously got a bit derailed in other posts, my main gripe was that CT's posting came across as being in poor taste. I know that my opinion on what constitutes poor taste is not going to be particularly welcome, in light of previous posts, but I'll still attempt to explain myself:
There are many posters with extensive collections, and they upload pictures of them, but all of them kept it to a point where I didn't feel that it was getting obscene or excessive, and they were always proving valuable contributions of discussion and experience in a way that earned the respect of other forum members. Despite anything I may have said earlier, and god knows I could have constructed my previous post in this thread better, I'm less bothered by conspicuous consumption than I am by what appears to be excessively self-centered attitude. I probably did more bad than good for my complaints of the latter by bringing up talk of morals, but I can't really say that I disagree with anything I've previously posted.
For what it's worth, my goal was absolutely not to offend anyone, but I thought it was getting a bit silly.

Calling someone ridiculous kind of makes the whole not offending anyone thing an uphill battle, ya think?

From what I've seen he loves basses. He's been around them a long time. He's amassed what amounts to a collection over the years. You have zero insight into his financial wherewithall from what I can ascertain. You also have no idea what charitable things he's done for his fellow man.

Bill Gates gives billions to charity... have you seen his house? Would you condemn the latter and ignore the former?

I see absolutely no reason to attack (yes, that's what you did) attack him the way you did. All it did was make you look petty... and I doubt that was your intent. There is no reason he should have to justify to anyone WHY he has what he has or what he does with his money. Are you ready to disclose your financials and let us all know how much you're helping your fellow man. Don't bother, I doubt anyone feels a need to know... that's between you and your conscience. And CT and his.

This just seemed like garden variety hatin' ramped up to a ridiculous level. If that's what it is... want what he has? Put the work in. Don't want it? Don't bother.

And quit assuming.

He has shown detailed pics, which he was criticized for NOT doing. Now that that criticism clearly isn't true...

Because of him, I found out about a brand of bass I wasn't aware of, which doesn't happen very often anymore. The curse of being around the block a few times.

Some people have nice houses, nice cars cost $50K. If you scrape up the coin to collect what drives you, more power to ya.

Want what someone else has? Go to work and quit whining. Studies have shown that the majority of millionaires in America are self-made. There is no free lunch in this world: most dollars must be earned. How can a young adult have an idea of what can be saved for and purchased over a period of 34 years? Especially considering that he spends it all on clothing, car insurance, alcohol and cigarettes. Why, I gained $300/month for basses when I quit smoking! That was 8 years ago: 8x12x$300.00 = $28,800 for basses!

More basses, less sour grapes please.

first of all, the only thing you should be surprised by is that your flame baiting didn't get you banned outright. acknowledging it in your earlier post by "wondering who was going to call you a commie first" shows your trollish intentions, as if you intended to make a mess in my forum. that's something i can't handle, and won't again.

secondly, you obviously missed the point of my -clearly- worded warning, so i will reiterate. you repeatedly insulted -the person- behind the collection, as opposed to stating your opinions about the collection itself.

not only does this indicate severe ignornace and hubris on your part - "just who exactly do you think you are to be qualified to make moral or value judgments on someone you have never even met?" is the first question that springs to mind (and then "why should anyone else care about what you feel is "obscene or excessive"?" is close behind it) - but it also is a direct violation of the most important rule in the usage agreement. something you seem only incidentally willing to acknowledge.

lastly, if you would like to continue your discussion about the motivations and inspriations behind ct's collection, take it to pm with him. in every posting he's made, he's shown himself to be a positive, good hearted person with the desire to share. traits you perhaps should attempt a little more to emulate. your expressed negativity says more about yourself than it does about anything anyone else has or does.

a parting thought. you've shown yourself capable of being arrogant, envious and hateful toward people you have never met before, and even hypocritical, which could be considered the worst, able to decry people for their perceived lack of "meaningful contribution" without, as far as i can see, having contributed anything of great substance yourself to this forum. posting here is a priviledge - thousands of people read what you write and listen to what music you share - i get 4-5 thousand hits on the mp3s on my web page from talkbassers alone every month. to get the most out of this priviledge, i would strongly advise adopting a more constructive philosphy. ultimately, the novelty and humor of vitriolic, destructive posts (their only real positive points) wear off long before they are forgotten, and acquiring a negative "reputation" here at talkbass will last a lot longer than you might want it to, should you wish to continue participating here.

JT, I feel must commend you on your use of the english language and ability to clearly express yourself. Now I'm not only jealous of your basses but of your communication skills also. :) Ahh... I'm not really jealous of your basses, I'm scared of anything with more than 5 strings. I may send you a PM for some advice next time I want to B slap someone. :)
