Smoking pot while being in a band

He's not right, and pot does plenty to improve some people's lives. Does it improve mine, not quite, especially not in the way it might a cancer patients, but it certainly doesnt detract from it. Removes one from reality? Uh, no, not in the least. Your every witness of its effects is definitely not the same as mine, as Ive seen many times it have no effect on a musicians capacity to perform. Of course not everyone reacts the same, and I wont say that Ive never seen people who can't play when theyre stoned. I just dont favor such sweeping generalizations.

For the record, I don't really care if someone else smokes pot (so long as they don't do it near me, as I can't stand the smell), and I don't know whether to believe it actually has health risks, given the contrasting evidence out there. I just don't like the holier-than-thou attitude of pot users, and there's plenty of it in this thread.
Wait, did someone just say the Beatles didn't smoke weed until after they wrote SGT Peppers? That's a pretty outlandish claim...

Heck, John Lennon (in the Yoko years) used to do smack with Kieth Richards at his place, and Richards would hate on him because he "couldn't handle his stuff". He said he'd curl up in a ball puking all night. It'd be a real buzz kill. It's all in Richards' book.

If you are a musician, and you dispute the fact that a huge percentage of great music was written under the influence, especially in rock and its subgenres, you are pretty ignorant and need to refresh your music history. And its not just the Beatles or the Stones either. And its not just music either. In poetry, painting, writting, everywhere, there are tons of work that was done under the influence, and I dare say, more of the "Great" ones were stoned or high, or drunk than the ones that were sober. Deal with it.
If you dont smoke, well, then keep on not smoking. But keep the crusader armour in your garage.

Alcohol is severely physically addictive, pot isn't.
I think the pot is just a by product of another issue. Remove the pot, there will likely still be a problem
Talkbass is probably more addictive than pot, and no one is shutting that down anytime soon!
